The Rolling Stones mono or stereo before Aftermath !?

Hello

I had read that almost all the master tapes before Aftermath are in mono but some tracks are fold down to mono or stereo?

Can someone share some lights; which master tapes us or uk, are real mono and real stereo (or fold down tracks) before Aftermath?

Regards

Hello there;

do the stereo tracks exist also in genuine mono tracks(not fold down)?

I mean if they used a 3 or 4 track master tape to record these stereo tracks, do they also had a mono master tape running simultaneously?

Regards

During this era the multi-track was mixed down to mono, stereo, or both. A mono track would not be recorded separately from the multi-track.

The mono was typically viewed as more important. For example, the Beatles would attend the mono mixing sessions but left the stereo sessions to others.

Thanks Elk how did they mixed down to mono, stereo or both from the multi-tracks?

I didnt mean a mono recorded separately from the multi-track, but something similar Miles Davis:

2 or 4 reels to reels:

1 stereo + one stereo backup
1 mono + one mono backup

master tapes

ps. Aftermath exist in mono and stereo, right? then it means there are 2 master tapes?

I do not know how the Rolling Stones recorded.

Michael Fremer discusses Aftermath here in his article about the sound of the Rolling Stones.

great article thanks
i will read it

ps. i must say that these 3 channels tracks, sound so great in mono, even a fold down sound better for example paint it black. The mono is the best version ever!!
