Theoretica Applied Physics BACCH

Never tried that.

I think that would be a fairer comparison of the DAC performance between the Adio and the MU2! I presume there is a BACCH ‘Bypass’ feature on the Adio, as there is on the BACCH4Mac.

There is. I just have zero interest in it.
I will try it though as your suggestion makes sense.

Yes, of course. I also play everything with BACCH. Curiosity…. Look forward to your feedback.
Thanks,

I am away from home for a couple of nights but I will try it when I get home and report back.

Guys,

After ORC, mono correction, etc etc, the equaliser is simply a beaut for that last 2%, and so easy to use. Right click on mouse and shape the curve to perfection! Be careful not to exaggerate. I am thrilled because it’s that easy to use that it can be adjusted for each track whilst listening, if you listen to playlists where each track is sounds different. I have used equalisers and tone controls before, but this one is magic - no deleterious effects if used carefully.

sorry if I sounded over enthusiastic. I just discovered this tool…

The discoveries seem endless. With the IPad you get with the adio the interface is really relaxing to use. I love the B4M interface. I should say the younger me loves it. But the iPad version is softer and less busy. It sounds good too. (The adio)

Interesting…my interface for B4M is also an ipad using splashtop to the Mac mini. You are right re possibilities. Almost every week I discover something new or a better way to implement some changes.

Okay I should say that the interface for the adio is run on a dedicated iPad. It is not the iPad that matters, it is the different interface.

I actually got that! Would be interested to see a photo when you got a moment.

See above.

I have done the test. No BACCH XTC filters, no Orc. Just the two DACs. I have picked a favorite between the MU2 DAC and the BACCH-SP adio DAC. It isn’t a big difference at all, no sir. Very close actually. The adio DAC wins. It seems a tiny bit cleaner and a bit more expressive. Things I really liked about the Mola Mola Tambaqui. Amusing.

I should add that the MU2, streaming to the MU2, no BACCH involved sounds as good as anything needs to.

Thank you for doing the experiment!!

Little help please:

We would like to completely control our Mac Mini w/ BACCH using an iPad. Currently we have the Mac Mini connected to our TV and would like to leave the TV off and control the Mac Mini, Roon, Qobuz, and BACCH just from the iPad (no mouse, no keyboard, no controller). Is that possible?

We spent an hour on the phone with apple and they couldn’t get the it to work with switch control.

Is Splashtop the answer or is there something better?

Thanks,
Steve

I tried Splashtop ages ago with a headless MacMini as an early foray into a digital server streamer using iTunes. Hair shirt experience! SplashTop didn’t play nice with the MacMini continuously locking up.

Does the Adio play/decode DSD256?

The adio doesn’t play any DSD at all. Edgar doesn’t care for and doesn’t support DSD.

Head tracking seems to be pointing all over tonight. Must be an external interference

Meanwhile most Bacch users experienced improvements by adding networkfilters, PSU upgrade, or better cables… So
Bacch is not immune to these things. Ofcourse not! A Mac mini brings in its own problems and limitations. Adding a good PSU will bring a massive improvement in soundquality.
It’s horrible to put a high quality signal from a dedicated streamer through a Mac mini, all the magic from your dedicated streamer will be lost.

Ofcourse the ‘degradated’ SQ combined added three dimensionality will forget you the first one… But if we could combine those powers! It’s relative easy makes B4M as a server/ DSP device which then can select an endpoint over UPnP or other protocols. This way we can gain in SQ by using the advantages of our dedicated ultra clean streamers… Now it’s exectly the same as streamer with a laptop or desktop and add Bacch three dimensionality and done… Atleast add a great power supply, but better would be a core with powerful CPU like a Mac en use a regular dedicated streamer as endpoint,

This idea would skyrocket Bacch’s software sales!!!
