Sorry for a double post.
I am listening to the Luxury HiFi Distribution playlist. This sounds so very much better than ever before. With just out of the box speakers.
I am using the Courtesy Cables to power each speaker. The XLR cables were $40 a pair on Amazon. The TRS to XLR cables I bought at a guitar store for $5 each. (Edgar’s promised cables didn’t arrive when the Speakers did. I anticipated this so I ordered the Amazon XLRs. I thought the speakers had one XLR and one TRS socket. Nope. Two XLR inputs. Hence the trip to the guitar shop.)
(Better cables coming.)
Anyway, right now it’s a Felix Laband song which makes it hard to focus. It has never sounded this good in this room. No subwoofers are involved. Those are for sale.
I have decided my strategy has changed, instead of goading you nice lads into expensive cables and Class A whatever. In the future I will be a “forget about cables, amplifiers, preamps, special feet” kinda guy. I am sitting in a room with a completely disconnected Gryphon Apex. I am listening to streaming, and I’m gobsmacked. This is better, way better. And it involves less gear, and a lot less money. A lot less.
For awhile the smart money was on a Gryphon Diablo, an MU2, a PowerZone, and speakers to taste. That system rules. Don’t fret. But for someone who wants to get to a magical place and not spend a lot of dough, there are new ways. Axpona was my clue. Kii Speakers, a bit pricey but they do not need BACCH, not even a little. They do the job. They are increasingly spendy, but a pair of stand mounts is so not suffering. No. In the future you can add the BXTs and experience love and lust like never before again. Or shucks, the Sevens are under $10K and they don’t need BACCH either.
But, an adio and a simple pair of JansZen by Edgar speakers and holy moly rocky, you have something very special. If you have a Bacch4Mac setup you can just buy the normal JansZens.
So two simple ways to go. Wanna skip BACCH? Buy speakers from my buddy Sean. He is now an authorized Kii dealer. He had standmount Kii 3s. I spent the better part of four days with Sean listening to those things. They were stunning. I hooked them up to my B4M and noticed an ever so slight improvement. Subtle at best. Sean HATED the BACCH. So I unplugged it after an hour or so. Never more. He was supposed to receive his 3BXTs today. He ended up sad. Tomorrow maybe.
Anyway, if you aren’t interested in BACCH, Kii. Sevens or 3s or 3BXTs.
If you are a fan of BACCH, JansZens. Edgar’s version is cheaper, but it requires an adio. With B4M, the same speakers are $1379 more. And they have more stuff inside. I haven’t tested that.
Edgar is negotiating with Roon to allow him to run Roon on BACCH machines. If you don’t spin discs that’s pretty much two pieces of gear. To hell with cables and fuses and all that once fun stuff. I like shortcuts, but I take a long expensive journey to find them.
Thoughts?
- I would say the step up in sound is similar to switching from Roon to Maestro times two.
