Theoretica Applied Physics BACCH

,

I bought all the gear as a package from Edgar for my Bacch4Mac setup. No regrets.

Clarification: BACCH-dSP works perfectly at 24-192. The only case where you cannot get audio out at 192 kHz is when yow use the optical out on the RME BabyFace Pro FS. Since most BACCH users use output from BACCH-dSP directly to their DAC over USB, this is not an issue and they can always play at 192k. Only when using the RME with optical output, and you switch to 192 kHz, the number of digital channels available through TotalMix is reduced and there are not enough internal channels to route the audio into BACCH-dSP then to the optical output. Only then you cannot play at 192k.

Generally speaking, users are welcome to select any sample rate (SR), up to 192 kHz. We recommend 96 kHz only because the CPU parallelization of BACCH-dSP on the Mac is optimized for the SR, but there is no harm (and, arguably, no benefit) going higher.

BTW, unlike regular stereo where most (if not all) humans cannot detect any difference above 44.1 kHz (if such a test is administered according to strict perception research rules), with spatial audio (e.g. BACCH) going up to 96 kHz has an audible effect (which can be demonstrated under controlled listening conditions) because humans, even older ones, can detect down to about 10 micro-seconds inter-aural time difference (ITD).

So, has anyone tried out the new ORC Room Correction?
Does it work for you?
I am pretty darned impressed with it. I can’t be alone. can I?

I am looking forward to getting my AudioPhile upgrade and trying out my new toys!

Al,

Sorry we’ve been non stop listening to music since we got ORC! :sunglasses:

It’s fantastic, we have a well treated room and it definitely sounds better now.

I would love to see someone do a comparison between an Edgar setup of BACCH w/ ORC in a good system let’s say $20k or so all in (speakers, pre amp, amp, source, DAC, cables, etc etc) vs a skies the limit esoteric type system at lets say $100k + or so.

I can safely say the music we are getting out of system now is by far the best we’ve ever heard from any system at any price point!

…and on an ironic side note we just got notified our Decware Sarah 300b Amp along with their esoteric speaker cables are about to ship (we ordered the amp 2 years and 2 months ago).

Dammit, I’m going to have to accelerate my time schedule to adopting BACCH + ORC. Pity we’ve just spent some big bucks on renovations and overseas trips with more renovations and trips planned.

I am still dialing mine in addressing some speaker moves to decouple bass some, passive room correction panels four new rear panels that will both improve impulse response also address a bass spike. I am finding that ORC further improves imaging with Bacch especially if you treat Impulse Response and rid the room of flutter echoes. A bit of flutter echo gives a more live sound in a regular 2 channel system adding pseudo recording space echo. But detracts from bacch and ORC.

ORC doesn’t address flutter echo but makes you more aware its there and if you go after it the boost is huge with Bacch-dSP. The sound I liked with Bacch-dSP without ORC is requiring a bit of room acoustic polish for even more 3D imaging magic to emerge.

My initial listen experiments with temp passive fixes gives BACCH and ORC a huge boost in clarity. But I am picky. My daughter tried it Sunday and was blown away as is without my lanned tweaking.

We hear you, we moved some 4’ x 2’ x 4" GIK absorption panels from behind the speakers and moved them additionally to the side , and added two 4’ x 2’ x 2" defecting panels behind the speakers, that took care of everything in our situation.

Great video - thanks!
I thought the discount was for existing customers- do you mean if I buy BACCH for Mac after 3rd March, the price goes up? In other words, there’s a discount for new customers if we get in before then?

From Edgar’s site:

BACCH - ORC is now available for $1000 as an optional module of BACCH-dSP 14 (Audiophile Edition and above), the application at the heart of Theoretica’s BACCH4Mac products, released on February 16, 2024. However, to mark the launch of the new technology, we are offering a free perpetual license for BACCH-ORC with any purchase of BACCH4Mac Audiophile (and higher edition levels) made by March 3, 2024. Current owners of a licensed copy of BACCH-dSP Audiophile (or higher levels) with a valid software update service plan by that date will get a free perpetual license for the BACCH-ORC module, in appreciation of their early adoption of BACCH4Mac.

Hope this helps!

Please excuse my rambling reply; I am still collecting thoughts. Over the last few years, I have used/experimented with several DRC programs and have found them to be indispensable even in well-treated listening rooms. IMO, Audiolense, Acourate, and Focus Fidelity have been the best commercially available DRC programs. In January 2024, I installed BACCH4MAC and was floored first by BACCH XTC and, more recently, by BACCH ORC. The BACCH ORC eclipses the previously mentioned DRC programs considerably - it is next level. BACCH ORC, in conjunction with BACCH XTC, pushes the sonic boundaries even further. I do not enjoy listening to music in my listening room with BACCH XTC/ORC bypassed. There is no going back for me.

I listened to this you tube and his longer video during show. I found he also was using the Bacch and ORC plots foe passive room correction improvements

I got my email today saying my four new panels should arrive Friday. Hopefully i can cut new Bacch ORC and XTC filters and call my Version 14.0.3 integration done snd just enjoy. I do like like what the speaker moves improved.

Welcome to the forum.

Care to share some details about the rest of the kit in your system…?

I am a home based audio dealer in Houston, Texas for Kii Audio and Linkwitz Audio. I have a Kii3/BXT speaker system and a LX521 speaker system. Both of these speakers are designed to interact 4.8 dB less with the listening room than most other speakers. Kii Audio creates a cardioid radiation pattern through DSP that makes bass directional to 40-50 Hz. The LX521 design provides a dipole radiation pattern when set up 4+ feet from front and side walls. As excellent as both these speakers systems are, they both benefit from BACCH XTC/ORC. One last item, I have no commercial connection with the Theoretical Applied Physics.

So, I’m considering an ADIO or a DIO. Currently I connect my T+A 3100 HV transport to my EMM DV2 using an AES/EBU with great results.
I my have missed responses that would answer my question and apologize if that is the case.
Because both BACCH units lack the AES/EBU ins and outs, I’m looking for advice on what are the best cable types for the best sound quality?
Any thoughts, advice, or experience would greatly be appreciated!
Thanks

SPDIF. I use Stealth Audio Octava-T SPDIF cables.
