This speaker is going to make it difficult for other speaker manufacturers out there to justify their price

I think the hybrid is the addition of mid bass drivers to the Moab design, this may take it closer to the Ulberth. Definitely like to see some photos

How many Tekton owners went for the bi-wire or bi-amp option? My current speakers sound way better bi-wiring them, but I’ve had other speakers that sounded worse when bi-wired. Was wondering how much the Tekton speakers benefit from being bi-wired, if at all?

And people (not on PS Audio forums) laugh at my Sealed Box 901’s which are “technically” point-source albeit with EQ.

Wow. You still run 901s? The lust-worthy speaker of my youth. And I’ll bet they sound fantastic.

That’s kinda wack…with a properly designed crossover and terminal connections it shouldn’t happen.

Oh it’s been a labor of love and hate. The rabbit hole started in Aug. 2018 when I scored a pair of 1968 Sealed Box 901’s with their original Tulip Stands but no EQ in Tucson, AZ. These things stunk of Cigarette Smoke and had water damage that didn’t penetrate into the Cabinet fortunately. I got rid of the grilles and sanded down beyond the water damaged area’s thereby ruining the original veneer - had no choice. Being a fan of NHT in the 1990’s, I had Arizona Plastics make 1/8” Black Acrylic Panels and a local metal finishing’s place also in Tempe, AZ powder coat the Tulip Stands. I had a Marantz receiver with Audyssey at the time and tried to dial in an EQ that would bring some life to the high’s. I wasn’t convinced at the time about going the MiniDSP or original Analog Bose EQ Box route and rebuilding the components within them…YET…the story gets better and worse.

Like you, umiami91, I too lusted after a pair since I was a kid. With the Audyssey EQ the highs were lackluster and there was no Bass. I then proceeded to buy a pair of McIntosh MC50’s off of eBay and they made the mids and high’s come alive but their still was no Bass. I have a Subwoofer in my old setup which I had to re-incorporate into my setup because their was nothing below 100Hz ! I rebuilt the MC50’s which widened the soundstage while maintaining the focus of the L & R front speakers. I also rebuilt (overbuilt) an eBay Series 2 EQ at this time. The EQ is is the secret sauce but power (WPC) was my enemy. Those Mac’s are good for driving a pair of Horn Speakers or efficient domed tweeter’d towers or Stand Mount Speakers. They were no good at Bass extension for the big bad 901’s and their power robbing EQ curves.

For what I paid for the MAC’s plus the money I’d sunk in parts to rebuild them (unnecessary, but I had the “bug” after rebuilding the Bose EQ by this time). I could and should have bought a Stellar S300 - stupid me - live and learn.

Onwards to 2019 and my purchase of a PS Audio Stellar Stack. A huge leap in sound quality compared t the Marantz AVR but I’d been struggling with a bit of GND loop hum and I’d Star GND’d the box as per Paul McGownan & Dan D’Agostino (yes I just threw names at this story - unfriend me later…LOL). Didn’t help so I lived with it. You only heard the hum during low level passages anyways (I know…not funny…fix it…never did).

Fast forward to November of 2019 and I bit the bullet and bought a MiniDSP with true Balanced Outputs. All my connection are XLR and the GND loop was still there…UNTIL the MiniDSP came into my life. I dialed in a Bose Series 2 EQ output from Rain City Audio that was measured at the “Flat” Setting of a box he’d repaired. Bingo…better than the stock boxes and absolutely no hum. But now I have low level hiss that can can only be heard when you are near the Speakers. At my listening position, it barely noticeable. Will need to make improvements inside my Homebrew Power Supply (Big Torroidal with Full Wave Industrial Rectifier and a very efficient adjustable voltage regulator).

With my recent PS Audio trade-in of my trusty SGCD for a DirectStream Sr. DAC, I am almost within a hair of Audiophile Bliss. The next step is getting the I2S output of the MiniDSP talking to the DS Sr’s I2S input therefore bypassing the MiniDSP’s cheapo 48kHz/24Bit DAC’s.

Even though (for now) I am running the Analog XLR Out of the DS Sr. Into the MiniDSP dialed with the perfect (to my ears) curve. I am sadly applying a Cheese Grater to the wonderful DAC that Ted Smith and the Team at PS Audio have designed. It still sounds better than the SGCD. WTF…LOL.

Sometimes hear Bird’s chirping through my Speakers. When I power Cycle the MiniDSP’s Power Supply, the problems gone. One headache at a time. That’s what this hobby is all about.

Old Pic with the Analog EQ

At the Tucson, Arizona DIY Speakerbuilder’s Event - I got A LOT of praise and felt vindicated. The Bottle of Glenfiddich also made the room VERY popular for those who weren’t driving that day :slightly_smiling_face:

Tucson Front L, C, & R - note that I am not using the corners of the rooms in both my Apartment Setup and in the Space I created at the Show. It removes a lot of the Stereo Everywhere effect while creating a dead center Phantom (in Stereo mode) image while maintaining the L & R imaging.

Wow. Just wow.your persistence is unreal. Great work and thanks for sharing the story.

Not many ordered them biwire I think. Go for single wire and 4ohms. Eric has discussed this on his videos and saves you the trouble and cost of additional cables for no benefit with his speakers.

I have a pair of Double Impact SE’s and they’re superb. Alot of people over spent on their speakers and it makes them feel better to bash Tekton. So the Double Impact SE could easily be called a $10k speaker ($6k factory direct and add markup).

So it’s not like they’re cheap.

Eric does a good job explaining why there are no phasing issues and even if there is, no one has heard it yet.

Those are a hot rodded piece of history. Kind of like a '60’s 'Vette with a new supercharged LS under the hood. I’ll bet you know more about 901’s than most on the planet. They are cool.

The Tekton’s are the new 'Vette with the supercharged LS. New tech. and power. Nothing seems to polarize stereo hobbyists more than speakers.

What makes me smile is people who say it won’t or can’t work without trying it in their house before judging.

I heard the Tekton Impacts alongside the Zu Audio Soul Supreme’s last Summer at our Club’s Speakerfest here in Phoenix. Sean Casey also was there (very nice Guy). Two different approaches to Speaker design but the results were phenomenal. The Tekton’s filled the room with high quality audio while still sounding like a pair of $10k Focals but better IMHO. The Soul Supreme’s on the other hand were half the size and yet they too filled the room with lifelike sound without drawing attention to themselves. These are the sound signatures I strived for with my 901’s. Setting them up as “Omni Directional” away from side walls totally goes against their setup manuals but eliminates the one note Bass Boom that they are known for. With a Subwoofer set at a 60Hz LPF, they are clean down to 35Hz and roll off nicely above 15kHz (I can only hear up to 13kHz anyways). The MiniDSP eq doesn’t have the sharp cliff dive of a filter above 15kHz like the original analog boxes, and I do hear an improvement (strange based on my earlier words) in the treble side of things. 9 midbass/midrange drivers should comb filter like crazy and sound like a wet fart. But those Bose Engineers were onto something 52 years ago. It’s a shame that they only build Speakers now in Professional applications only.

Maybe they’ll hire me to consult on 901’s if they ever decide to bring them back. Unfortunately, when Dr. Bose passed away, so did the production of the 901 Series 6’s. I don’t see a Vintage run like the L100’s, Klipschorn’s, Harbeth’s, etc. Shame.

Thanks for the compliments.

Agreed. The ZU’s are another really well thought of line of speakers. There is no way that I will ever be able to listen to more than a couple more sets in my home system in my lifetime but it is fun to think about and research.
I am in the process of gathering pieces for a “big” system in the basement but it will be some time before that comes to fruition.
Lately I have been looking at some “open baffle” array and line source speakers from GR Research. They are mostly sold as kits but I would probably pay them to finish, assemble, test, and ship complete as my cabinet making skills are zero. Both are explained in this video. He seems down to earth and very knowledgeable and a no BS kind of person. A lot like Eric in that respect.

The more I read through these posts the more it seems like some of the Tekton owners are trying to get people to agree with them about Tekton. If you love your Tekton speakers who cares if some people don’t. If I buy a pair of $50K speakers and you feel your $10K speakers are better, I’m not losing sleep over your purchase. People buy all kinds of gear for a ton of different reasons. There is no one product that works for everyone. Everyone can make a case of why Brand A is better than Brand B.

Just enjoy and listening to some music.

I don’t think they are trying to get people to agree as much as to not to be haters

That’s why I have LS50s. Nobody hates LS50s

Ahh. The LS50. KEF has made a lot of crappy speakers in their time but the LS50 definitely ain’t one of 'em.

Exactly. People will point out “you can get better” which is always true, but nobody says “those are CRAP!”

Nobody ever got fired for buying IBM. Lol.

Nice review of the Tekton Moab’s.

I hope that’s not the room he reviewed them in. Can you hear the echo from just his voice when he talks?

The mike sounds like it is in an echo chamber for the music too
