Tricky to use the remote for the new PMG Signature preamp

It would be great if this was confirmed by @Paul, so those that will be receiving PMG units going forward will not have to be concerned about it.

I would expect the folks at PSA to work the corrective action back thru manufacturing. However this sounds like a design change. Typically does not happen overnight. And probably want to test that change pretty thoroughly. Sounds like they are on it though

Count me in. I am also finding the remote sporadic with the PMGPre and also the ‘Input’ section on my DSD Mk2 doesn’t work for Coax 1 or 2 - but does for all other inputs. eg: I2S 1, etc. This seems to more of a ‘physical problem’ as I can certainly select these inputs manually from the DSD Mk2.

I will chat with support sometime this week when the timezones and life work for me.

Certainly frustrating that this seems to be a common thread.

It’s a letdown to spend this kind of dinero and then have something so basic turn out to be buggy. Perhaps the design and initial renditions were fine and then there were production problems. If that’s the case, then I’d expect for it to have been spotted before units were shipped. I’m curious to see how this will be handled — or not. In the past PSAudio had been very reasonable regarding problems, and I would not be surprised at all if that’s the case here.

Remote issues, in contrast to My FireTV remote ($25) which I can point away, point any angle, even use it in bed and it works well.

Yes, most irritating to me, it can’t remove or reduce my movie streaming costs. I sympathize, life is hard when one must move his fanny around in his chair. lol

My DMP and DSD MK1 sit behind my main rack out of necessity. So to use the remote, I have to go there and aim right at the DMP. No problem for me.
But when I had a Jay’s CD transport, it’s greatest virtue was the remote. I could issue a commend from Mars and it would respond immediately.
The person who now has my Jay’s rarely listens to an entire CD, skipping here and there. That drives me nuts. But it’s remote is a dream for her.

I had a similar experience with a pair of KEF LS50’s for the bedroom. The included remote is almost useless unless one is a few feet away and points correctly. They offer a premium remote but I have not purchased it.

I’m still using Harmony remotes everywhere.

+1 the remote is a problem for me as well.

Lol theres enough holes in the bottom plate mounting the receiver else where shouldnt be an issue :joy:

Move the unit to another shelf

Im ocd how an where my stuff sits
i would have not suggested people move there pmg to another shelf
faulty build and the user has to move it around to use a 10K product lol

Im sorry maybe im being mean but, psa needs to do better at this point, too many other companies to choose from with way less quirks.

Starting to be the landrover of audio

Contact PSA service. The unit’s remote antenna may have to be repositioned and they
will provide a plan.

Shouldnt have to be putting a new pmg back in a box to be push n dropped around in shipping to be taken apart n tampered with putting a rf next to something else that wasnt planned for in the first place

Im sorry but having own ps product and being here i had some tolerance but im seeing too much an i know this is a fun club n all but dont put up with too much just to justify a product
speak up when its too far!

Obviously the pmg needs revisions on multiple counts an should be addressed. If i owned one id return it an wait a while

Jus bein honest
this stuff aint cheap to be having issues on an on

After Pauls comment it clearly needed to be said again, i do it for everyone that is afraid of reputation or is uneasy to say it

If im being honest

I am the OP. I found a way to hold the remote (aiming downward a bit in my case) so that it responds 98% of the time. No issue now. I have to admit this is not the best remote I have ever used.

Good to have a work around.

It would be great to have an official statement on how the issue is resolved

Oh, it’s pretty clear that people have been unafraid to express their opinions here as evidenced by the previous comments. I guess am mostly reacting to your communication style which rubs me the wrong way. I’ll have to just own that and move on. Surely my style has aggravated some on the forum as well.

Please tone it down. We have no issue with contrasting opinions, but we expect, and insist upon, kind, respectful dialog.

The issue of a remote control for expensive audio equipment reminds me of an article I read about the importance of cup holders in cars in influencing a customer’s buying decision. On the surface it would seem that both of these items would be relatively unimportant accessories when compared to the overall quality, expense, and reason for owning an automobile or an expensive audio component. However the automobile industry found out that cup holders were in fact something factored rather significantly into a customers buying decision. Maybe the high-end audio industry is experiencing the same thing with remote controls. I get the impression that remote controls are somewhat of an afterthought when it comes to designing a high-end preamp. Rightly so, the prime objective in designing a product like the PMG is sound quality. In the case of the PMG products it does appear there was consideration given to the visual design eg. the thick face plate and the front panel swoop, and the display. But the remote control does not appear to have been as well thought out and implemented as the other components in the design of the preamp. In reality, the remote control is the direct interface most of us use operating our systems. The reliability and design of a good remote control should complement the sound and enjoyment of a component rather than be a source of work-arounds that consist of quirky pointing angles and the shelf placement of components. My guess is that PS Audio has figured this out; hence the development of a premium remote control. Too bad this the premium remote could not have been released with their premium line of PMG components.
