For what little I know (and that truly is very little) I think Ted’s focus is (and it could now be, was) is to improve the analog section of the current MK2 DAC along with other improvements to make an even better DAC, potentially for less.
The TSS DAC is still a possibility, but in audio terms, not a soon to be release.
I hope that someday it comes to fruition. I’m a big fan of code driven DACs. Who knows, maybe he designing not a 1 or 1.5 but a 2 bit
DAC. Shows what little I know but he’s one of the few that has stretched the boundaries and we benefit.
I hope that you are correct…

Is this project dead? Is Ted taking it outside PS Audio? What is Ted up to now? @tedsmith ?
Yes, project is long dead and turned into the PMG 512 DAC instead. I haven’t spoken to Ted in quite some time so I don’t know what he’s up to.
I continue to miss Ted a great deal. 
He was open, informative, and unpretentious.
A most gracious individual, sorely missed. Hopefully all is well with Ted and his family.
I was so looking forward to the two box TSS. 
Ted’s the best! He’s fine as best I know and I doubt we’ve heard the last from Ted. I too miss the idea of a dual chassis DAC and promise you I have not forgotten.
As was I, at the time. And I agree with what everybody commented in the prior posts.
Let’s not forget the history: The Perfect Wave DAC was introduced, what? in 2009 or 2010?
Then was upgraded using the SAME chassis by just swopping the boards…
And when, was it 2014? Along came Ted Smith with another cutting-edge board … STILL INSIDE THE SAME CHASSIS! Which lasted until what, 2023? That’s like 12 or 13 years?
As p!$$ed off as I am at PS Audio for dropping the DS MkII a mere 4 months after I’ve purchased it, all the MORE do I have to admit how much I appreciated those years. I do not think there are that many companies that would have been willing to do the same.
But the writing was on the wall, unfortunately. Time stands still for nobody. The FPGA mountain tops became unsustainable; the tech superseded etc.
Ted is an amazing engineer. By no means did the mountaintops become unsustainable. In fact Ted only got to use a portion of the two large fpga’s in the Mk2. There was so much untapped potential. I enjoyed being part of beta testing for Ted with the various loads. My Mk2 is playing beautiful music to this day and we will never know what it could have become given the chance.
Some time ago someone suggested that a group of MKII owners band together and offer a fee for additional updates from Ted. Nothing came of it however. I guess everyone has moved on. Such a shame. It’s still a wonderful DAC though.
The limitation of the MkII, unfortunately, is the video op-amps.
A while back Paul mentioned the difficulty in getting a good sounding upgrade on the MKII:
“The funny thing was that many of the versions sounded much worse than what we were replacing. That process of choosing the best sounding compile was always a crap shoot. Drove Ted and me crazy because the code itself was always identical, just the way it compiled was the difference. Very crazy process.” (sorry I don’t knw how to link to another thread, so had to just copy)
My point being that continuing to generate updates may have been juice not worth the squeeze.
