Turntable Recommendations under $2500..?

has anyone tried the Rega RP8.? I have an eye on a used one for about 2500. They are not the Planer8 - but also $2K less!

the VPI’s look more solid than the Rega’s…soley from optics. A buddy of mine has the VPI ScoutMaster and that thing is a beast.

yes…thanks Dawkins…I see they have a VPI Scout for $2K USD.

hey Perry…thanks man. Those EAT turntable look pretty darn good alright…but hard to find!

Yes…but only to a US address.

I am in Canada, eh.

Rega has a different philosophy than other companies in that they believe in low mass but very rigid construction.

And Rega’s philosophy works very well for me at least.

Me too. I have it paired with the Clearaudio Concept MC cart going through the Stellar Phono. Sweet!

I’ve got an RP10 with Apheta2 cart and an SPP due in the next few days. Can’t wait to audition the Stellar Phono.

You should be very happy when it all comes together. I agree with everyone else here that you should allow some time for the Stellar to kick in. Then…WOW!

Hi TJ, I have owned lots of different brand of TT’s. Personally, I ended up yrs ago w a beefed up Linn 12 TT. Looking at Audiogon, for what they had under $2500. What I liked, is as follows:
VPI Aries Scout TT (no cart)-$1700.00
VPI Scout TT (no cart)-$1400.00
Thorens TD316- $745.00
Thorens TD-206-$900.00
Linn Basik w Akito arm w cart $499.00
Basis 1400 TT,w clearaudio carbon fiber tonearm (no cart)-$1790.00
These are some of what I believe could be a good start to building upon these TT’s.
Good Luck
CJ

Regarding VPI TTs in general, I shied away due to the unipivot tonearm being potentially more fiddly. I have no first-hand experience so others feel free to weigh in on this.

I personally love the simplicity of Rega products and I even settled on their Apheta2 MC cart that has 3-point mounting to the tonearm. Makes setup very simple and consistent. I’m not the guy messing with VTA on each LP. Too much effort for possible small gains IMHO.

THIS x 1000

Thanks CJ…much appreciated!
