Update on Bridge II

I think there might be some Roon code running on the renderer, called ‘Roon Speaker’

If this was standard uPnP it shouldn’t pose a problem, though.

The way I understood it was that the renderer need quite some resources if Roon (in its entirety) was to be embedded as code directly on the endpoint.

Funny I’ve been wondering the same, going to query Roon. But I’m pretty sure can’t access Bridge or at least I haven’t been able to.

Please, Keep It Simple Stupid (KISS). Solid network connection, passes album art to DS every time, works with all DLNA software, sounds great, and does gapless perfectly. Also, I’d like to buy it soon. Been waiting for a gapless solution, over my network, for years now!

Good questions Elk. The little bit of code would make the Bridge II an endpoint as you suspected. You would still need a computer to do all the work, select the tracks, render them, then send them over the network. You would use the Roon IOS app to control the computer where Roon server is located.

Roon is normally the player, and when I have used it, it was connected to the DAC via USB. To stream Roon over the network requires a set of libraries at the endpoint to receive the UDP based data stream and tell Roon where to locate the endpoint. They do not use UPnP for a number of reasons, and therefore the Roon server must have some means to discover any Roon endpoint locations on the network, identify them and play to them.

Hope that helps.

Thks for the update Paul but was hoping to get rid of USB, very disappointed.

Me as well, but don’t give up hope. We will launch BII without knowing if we can add Roon and you can give up USB. Nothing changes in that respect. The only difference is Roon has a wonderful user experience in selecting music, existing programs like Mconnect aren’t as cool - but functionally they are identical. And sound wise they are identical.

Bridge II is every bit the miracle we had hoped for, it is just that without Roon, and a computer to run it on, the experience of selecting music isn’t quite as good.

But, that doesn’t mean Roon won’t be added later. Remember, the Bridge II can be updated in the field easily enough and once Roon releases actual code, we’ll do our best to rearrange bits to accommodate.

Just wondering if you know when the release looks to happen and if you are still going to offer an upgrade for B1 users?

+1 on this aspect, w.r.t month: July / August / Sept.

We are going to offer an upgrade path. Right now it’s looking like retail on B2 will be $899 and we’ll offer a $300 purchase for B1.

Hope to start shipping B2 near the end of this month (July).

Believe you had said 1k so you’re going in the right direction Paul blush_gif

Thanks Paul! Can’t wait!!!

That’s pretty good news !

Paul, just to be absolutely clear, is $300 the price for B1 owners or the trade-in allowance for a B1?

As an uninvolved layperson with no interest of any kind in B1 (but who has already paid for 90% of a B2 (need to pay the difference once B2 product is released) and is eagerly awaiting release of B2 …

  1. … I read it that PSA were offering to purchase B1’s for US$300, which I think will be a bit over market once the B2 is available.

Alternatively put, hassle free additional $100 - $150 above market with no need to sell B1 before ordering and enjoying a B2. Nice deal.

  1. If wrong, assuming B1 was US$800 original price, and if it were only US$300 for B1 users to upgrade to B2, this would be implying they retained US$600 of value in their original B1. Or 75% of their original purchase price, up to X yrs later. Maybe as little as 8% depreciation per year, assuming one paid full RRP (and ignoring that price three years ago was probably lower). I don’t know of any hi-fi gear that does that…

if #1) is a nice deal; #2) would be a total sweetheart gift.

$300 is the amount we take off the $900 if you want to trade in B1, so then you would pay $600 for B2.

Sorry, it would have been great if we could have flipped it around. doh_gif

Thanks Paul. That’s the way I read it but the language was a little ambiguous (at least to me, but I argue the meaning of words for a living) and I didn’t want people to misread it and then get annoyed later.

Really generous trade-in deal, thanks Paul. cool

Looking forward to Bridge II

+1… I hope its an improvement over B1. I am hoping the 12 sec load time for dsf with B1 will be lowered.

Hello everybody
I am experiencing dropouts with Roon and the DS playing DSD (DOPs) files over a MacMini/NAS thru a WWorld Platinum USB cable. However, if I change to JRiver on the Mac Mini and using Bridge 1 the dropouts disappear. Besides the future chance of using Roon loaded in BII, it looks that at present configuration there are some compatibility issues with Roon under USB (with both PP and Yale).

I am not sure the Bridge is responsible for DSF loading times, it's more likely the computer you're using to supply it. The Bridge needs DoP to get the DSF over the network and perhaps the conversion to DoP in the computer is causing the lag?
