Signed on to Audiogon around 10:45 this morning and immediately got a fake Microsoft scam offer that locked my browser. They wanted me to call xxx-xxx-0336.
Beware, don’t call that number.

Thanks for the warning. As an old software developer, I can’t emphasize enough to backup your system data. Another scam is you are told that Microsoft hired these people to check if your computer has a virus and to click below to clear the virus. If the virus is not in the root files, one can do a shutdown and restart.
That has been my experience.
Chas
If companies such as Microsoft, etc, etc are going to contact you, they’re going to do it via email, and all you have to do is check the actual email address that it came from. Not only that, they are going to refer to you with your name, not “Dear Customer” or some nonsense like that. If it’s a random, funky looking email address, then its spam and/or a scammer.
Microsoft and the like are NEVER going to directly contact you through your browser. It’s common sense stuff. If someone falls for this stuff, it’s their own fault.
Plus, having quality virus, malware, spam, etc, etc protection on your PC that’s up to date, you shouldn’t have to worry about much.
Umm…I was born at night but not last night :^ /

AudioGon has been having issues with pop up scams for quite a while now. I’ve gotten “Congratulations iPad user, you’ve won …” many times. Only way to get rid of is to close the tab and start over. AudioGon insists it’s not them, but that doesn’t happen on other sites so draw your own conclusion …
I agree, same thing happened to me a few months ago when I signed on AudioGOn

Thank you, I will look into bitdefender.

No worries, Chas. I think you will find it offers the best all around protection out there.
