Not really. The rear setup of a 993 is from 1995. My car is actually an 1987 930 chassis which means it suspension dates from 1963.
Yes. Thatās what I meant about the 993
So you are not racing a bunch of modern Porsche race cars with your old air-cooled 911, you just happen to be on the track at the same time as you and your competition, like endurance racing such as Le Mans, yes? Or are they time handicapped?
Of course I am racing them. I want to beat every car on the track. I am in GT3 and there were six GT3 cars in the race. One in front of me and four behind me. We only get points and trophies based on how we finish in class, but we are all racing the cars around us on the track.
We are saying the same thing; you race within your class but you are, of course, happy to pass anyone you can.
In my end of the world, open track days are for everyone, including full blown high-powered race cars, manufactures of mods/race parts testing prototypes, etc. It is a hoot, and occasionally very humbling.
These are our cars, we love SUVās for practical reasons. We need a vehicle that easily allows a wheelchair to be loaded. My wifeās Volvo XC 90 Hybrid soon to be a Tesla and my Jeep SRT.
@timm Over the years I have owned:
'37 (I think) Pontiac pick up truck with a small block chevy
'57 Chevy with a nice 327 in it
'58 Chevy with a '283 and a 'glide
'58 Chevy Cameo Pickup with a 235 6 holer

'64 Chevy station wagon
'69 396-SS Chevelle
'68 Firebird with a turbocharged small block and later a big block Chevy
'74 Ford pickup with a '360. Terrible engine in the early SMOG days. No power and no mileage either.
'75 Ford 4WD with a turbocharged 360
'79 Chevy 3/4 ton 4WD. I blueprinted the engine and cammed it to pull a trailer. Good running truck that is still in the neighborhood. I sold it to a friend who kept it up and gave it to his son who was in high school at the time but must be 35 or 40 now.
'76 Chevy crew cab Dually with a really built 454 and 4:56 gears. That was a fast truck. A friend borrowed it and totaled it out in a wreck. Sad to see that one go. I did a body off complete rebuild and custom paint job on it.
'67 Chevelle with a roller cammed aluminum head 454, 4:11 gears and a killer stereo. Bought in '83. Sold in 2015.
'86 Chevy crew cab dually. Slightly built 454 and a kick ass stereo.
'06 Dodge Charger Hemi. I still have it. The clock shows 8000 miles.
'06 Escape. Wifes car.
'10 Escape. Traded the '06 in on it.
ā11 S&S hauler and 44ā stacker trailer. Freightliner with a 525 HP Detroit 60 and 18 speed.
Oval track race cars from ~1983 thru ~2015. Sold everything in 2015-16 as everyone involved had aged out.
Current livery:
'06 Charger
'08 JD 310-SJ Backhoe Loader
'08 Yamaha Grizzly quad
'10 Escape
'13 F250 4WD snow plow truck
'13 F250 4WD delivery truck
ā16 Newmar 34ā Motor Home
'14 Honda CRV that we pull behind the motor home
'16 Z06 Corvette
Iām sure I forgot a few over the years but thatās a pretty representative list.
Also a few motorcycles:
Allstate moped ( when they still had pedals)
A few home made go carts and mini bikes. We put a 305 Honda on a home made go cart frame. It was fast and dangerous.
Mid ā70ās Yamaha DT-1 250
Kawasaki 750cc 3 Cylinder 2 stroke. I could see right away that I was going to die if I kept it.
Suzuki RM 250. That was a fun bike. Bent the forks and frame in a crash and sold it wrecked.
I never was interested in the big street cruising bikes.
My Alfa Brera.
Sheās a temperamental mature Italian lady, but worth it for the Feelsā¦

Since upgraded the brakes and callipers
Very nice!
I love Alfas. I wish we could buy the Brera or the Giulietta in the US.
Sweet ride, please edit your post to remove the word āoldā. Be extra nice to your lady.
Chas
Sad day. Sold my motorcycle. My reflexes arenāt what they used to be andā¦
My condolences Ronā¦ What was the make/model of your precious?
Ducati Monster 900
Thatās a big deal machine to let go. My condolences!
waaaaaaaa But I had it long enough and I found myself too often thinking Iāve lost my form.
My first bike in around 1968 was a Bultaco. I think it was a 125cc two stroke. Paid around $100. Ugly but faster than youād expect. I swear that bike was trying to kill me.
I flipped a Suzuki 750 in 1980; dude pulled in front of me. Took 1/4in off helmet topā¦ I would be dead if it wasnāt for the helmet. Started sliding it down as you should and it high sided and I went over at 70mphā¦ I could see the bike twisting over and over as I was pitched up and out. Weird, happening in slow motionā¦ I loved that bike. Was stationed at MCAS Yuma for 3 years and just road every weekendā¦ never touched a bike after thatā¦ way too many crazy driversā¦
