We also love hi-end watches

Wow, nice Rick. And no airport lines, passport, etc.

Great idea, as I’ve been toying with the idea of a Peloton. I do prefer outdoor cycling, having access to a rolling terrain, and moderate climate for 6 - 8 months. Winters are a different story.

Edit:
Considering I’m in Madison, I need to check-out the Saris H3. As well as the app you mentioned. Thanks for the nudge.

@weedeewop - yes, you are right there where Saris is located. I have 7,000 mi on my Hammer III. I use to have a NEO that lasted 8months w/ 4500mi. It is now a boat anchor. I built the bike on the trainer; no brakes, just a drive train… Ridley - Nighthawk. The Saris MP-1 was a pleasant addition this spring. Not a fan of the Peloton cause it does not transfer training to outdoors and focused indoor training is for getting better performance on outdoor live rides. My Ridley has a Stages power meter on the non drive side. I train power so I have power meters on all (4) bikes to collect data and set up training programs to get higher power numbers and speed… in the end, getting faster on the bike is what training is intended to develop. For me, it is not about a cardio work out alone; all about better performance.

@weedeewop - here is my 2nd passion. 75ft long X 12ft wide X 6ft deep. 400Kbtu gas heater w/ 150K heat pump in tandem. All Pentair equipment. In-floor cleaning system w/ 23 pucks. Love swimming laps year round.

Looking for the cardio gains specifically. My thought is the Peloton is a lot of $$ for not much. Friends have them and swear by it, but the Saris H3 looks like it should fit the bill. My set-up won’t be too fancy, I’ll repurpose an aging Trek 7300 most likely.

That is very nice, and I can appreciate it being a swimmer as well. I’ll post photos of my ā€œpoolā€.

No cover required, typically lke glass in the early morning and evenings. Not exactly big being 1.5 miles by 0.5 miles. Maximum depth is 85 feet. Water clarity, secchi disc, is typically 21 feet on a still day, The lake was formed by the last Wisconsin glaciation about 10,000 years ago. Thus the majority of the lake has a rim around it protecting it from the wind somewhat. This lake spoils water skiers, with its glass like surfaces.

@weedeewop - exactly; Rouvy app will run you $100 a year; you could go Zwift if you like animation. The Saris MP-1 is not need initially. If you ride <1.5hrs, then no issue…

@weedeewop - I swim between 5,000 and 10,000 yards a day when swimming a lot. I ride in morning and swim in afternoon. Weekly is about 30K yards when dialed up. You might want to look at these for tunes… they are amazing and have swim and bike mode…

I’m a 15-20 miler, so that puts me at 1-1.25 hours daily. I’ll try it without the MP-1 first, and decide if adding one is necessary. Not sure I need animation. Rather have semi-decent biking music to pedal to. Thanks for the suggestions, as this is just the kick in the pants I needed.

@weedeewop - Rouvy gives you video of a course you select so it is like riding live. In addition you can design workout w/ power, speed… Zwift is more animated… not my thang… good to just investigate. Let me know how you make out and go DM so we keep this watches…

Swimming I’m at 1,500m, basically across the lake and back. Grew up in the water, didn’t know any better.

How much work is it to maintain a pool (assume indoor) and what are the operating costs?

What are the maintenance expenses (assume chlorine, not salt).

I have been tempted but do not have much of an understanding as to what is involved.

My favourite lap pool on the roof of a rather nice hotel in Seville, Spain. Made of stainless steel. Has. 2-star restaurant, a fabulous bar and bull-fighting 100 yards away. Not great for cardio, but a lot more fun.

I’m more of an outdoors type. but it is most fabulous indeed.

This showed up today. Very nice, solid, and comfortable.

Since the euro is so low, got this handmade cuckoo clock from the Black Forest for the wife. It’s not a watch, but it tells the time and sings it in two different tunes. Will that do?

What was her response?

It’s awesome!

Those are the best. I got one for my parents many moons ago, rotating glockenspiel and all. Well done

Well I was expecting a slightly more enthusiastic response. First response was, ā€œOh we already have a cuckoo clock!ā€ I said, ā€œyeah but it hasn’t worked for a year and we can’t fix it!ā€ She: ā€œwell it works, it’s just annoying to wind every day.ā€ I: ā€œwell this one you need wind only once every eight days!ā€

That got her excited. Whatever works I say.

I’m guessing in a few short days she’s going to come up to you and give you a kiss thanking you. It’s a really sweet clock. Nicely done!
