Well I didn’t mind the chickens, but this is a uk suburban area, and our garden is tiny even by uk standards.
Neighbours back onto us, they have a hundred foot long garden, and put the chicken coup right at the bottom of their garden next to us.
With three (count ‘em) cockerels.
Nevertheless they made me smile, but the coup attracts rats from all around, and they casually wander through our garden, much to my annoyance.
Jess the Dog doesn’t catch rats (or anything), but she prob would chase a rat, she certainly chases grey squirrels in the woods when she gets a chance.
It’s a totally enclosed back garden though so she often comes out for a fag with me in the small hours. I keep telling her she should cut down
As yet she’s not seen a rat…

Chickens and Rats: If you live in a semidetached council owned dwelling, contact your local council, environmental health and pest control agencies! There is “NO WAY” I would tolerate what you accept as part and parcel of your neighbours keeping chickens in the back yard. It isn’t a farm or a smallholding!! The root cause is your neighbours; the chickens and rats are symptoms. Sort out the root cause; on a one to one, or through the courts. My offer still stands.! Do you want me to bring down my 12-gauge ‘.? No chickens = No rats, and, you get new neighbours into the bargain…!
I appreciate the offer but around here sight of a shotgun would bring the local Armed Response Unit to our door
It’s our house but the local council do nowt anyway for infestations, just hoping the rat population will naturally decline
Looking more and more like I’m sticking with JRiver for now. Maybe with a nucleus Roon would be better. I’m not ready for all that change. I can’t decide what direction to go. Toughest decision in this hobby yet.
Stuff took care of some very annoying chipmunks living under my backyard shed…also a few collateral squirrels.
Yes. It works good. I put them in all of my outbuildings this time of year and in the spring. It is cheaper and more effective than having to feed cats.
I also place a good amount in my outbuildings, as well as the garage where the toy car and motorcycles winter. It is effective.
