I listen to a lot of Baroque music, but there is always an elephant in the room when I do. I refrain from asking myself what I would really like to be listening to, because the answer would be Bach or Biber. Occasionally I indulge myself. This version is one of my favourites.
Great album. Their rendition of Waltz For Ruth is just wonderful.
I guess I have a Kenny Barron thing going lately; with another fabulous bass player.
I’m listening to a compilation I made of all the tracks Ed Motta recorded over the course of a few years for a series of “Songbook” cd volumes featuring the compositions of Brazilian songwriters.
This is a great group of work and surprisingly administering them chronologically is a great sequence.
I love Motta’s singing, composing and playing. He’s a big man, and an even bigger talent.
Boogaloo Joe Jones “The Psychedelic Guitar of” “More Psychedelic Guitar: My Fire” Beat Goes Public cd
Really fun Donald Fagen album with outstanding recording quality.
And my favorite Chili Peppers album.
I thought I had heard most versions of the Mystery Sonatas, but this one was a first for me. It was very interesting because the accompaniment is more varied and prominent than on many, and this means that the pieces see much more active interplay between continuo and violin. It gives a new character to many of them which is refreshing to hear.
Henryk Szeryng, London Symphony Orchestra “Beethoven Violin Concerto” cd from the “Complete Philips, Mercury and Duetsche Grammophone Recordings” box set.
Gorgeous recording (96/24) of Roman cello sonatas circa 1710-1740 by cellist Marco Ceccato and his ensemble, Accademia Ottoboni - -
Marcin Wasilewski’s cover of Prince’s “Diamonds and Pearls”. Perhaps one of the best recent jazz covers of a pop song.
Actually, this might be a good thread to start - bootzilla?..
