I’m new to Abbado’s Beethoven recordings. I’m really into John Eliot Gardiner’s set as well as Haitink’s wonderful LSO set.

The new Lee Fields & The Expressions album “It Rains Love” dropped last week to excellent reviews and is streaming on TIDAL – I am listening as I type and it sounds great! I saw LF&TE live on 12/31/2015 at ArtsRiot in Burlington, VT . . . that was a party! (@amsco15, LF&TE are at Thalia Hall in Chicago on 4/12/19 if you are in the mood for some old-school soul.)

Thanks for the tip. Thalia Hall is a pretty great place. Pilsen, on the near south side. About 15 block north of White Sox Park. Used to be a pretty tough neighborhood when I was growing up but has gentrified a lot. I just saw Ry Cooder there. It’s right next to my favorite BBQ and music joint, Honky Tonk BBQ.

Royal Concertgebouw Orchestra’s Debussy and Ravel’s Orchestral works conducted under Haitink are down right amazing! Plus Phillips’ excellent recording (feels like sitting in back row of listening hall), the music just painted a perfectly dreamy impressionism: Spring is great time to re-visit Debussy and Ravel:-)

I also appreciate more the dust cover art of Phillips / DG / DECCA / LONDON released in 80s and 90s;

Pretty good musically but the production reminds of the work done with the late Charles Bradley and the over emphasized bottom end.

My favorite of their live albums. I saw them on this tour in 1996, their first with Shaun Murphy on vocals.

I cherish both of these 2 disc sets. Haitink/RCO’s Nocturnes are remarkable!
