The last Babe Ruth LP I have

My setup is primarily digital. The choice of words ‘pile of albums’ may have been misleading on my part. I do have an old B&O TT that is used sometimes.

Listening again to Hank Mobley “Workout” Blue Note Japan RVG LP facsimile cd.

Listening yesterday led me to remember how often my best and oldest friend and I listened to this in the early 'nineties and marveled at the music and the sound. That’s what I love about the quality of my system–I can instantly connect to memories and the music, the better the system becomes the deeper and faster the connection. Reminding me yes, I’m an audiophile, but I really am driven by music. I don’t know what I would do without music in my life. I’d be someone completely different, that’s certain. … .

We are so much alike in that we love music…

We’re music lovers! It’s a wonderful bond we who appreciate and LOVE music share.

Now on to Tina Brooks “True Blue” Blue Note Japan RVG LP facsimile cd.

A superb session.

I’m really enjoying revisiting and listening to new arrivals in the Japanese RVG series. I love the packaging. And I gave up seeking these out because it was very hard to get them to sound right in my system. But. . . in the last few years I have been enjoying a component (the Decware ZROCK2) that is billed as a “bass restorer” and is a tube based preamp that has two adjustable EQ curves and really has allowed me to tailor the sound and enjoy many recordings and “mastering styles” I couldn’t before. Now these Japanese RVG LP facsimile cds can sound very good and I’m on the scout for them again. Found 3 Donald Byrd titles reasonably priced that are on their way to me now.

This is another great album that I could not get from Music Matter anymore, wish I knew earlier!

Sorry about that. I moved to digital at the close of the 'eighties as in Austin, Texas I just could not find many jazz albums I read about and was eager to hear, and the cd “boom” was beginning and there they were available on cd. So I started collecting cds, and now that I can find so many cheap I really balk at paying so much for LP reissues that I just. . . don’t. I have this “True Blue” in three digital versions. . . each has their charm, the XRCD24 from Audio Wave may be the best sounding by a hair or two.

Time to move to The Dark Side, vinyl can be a lot of fun. Just not the convenience of streaming.

The Music Matters version is also good as is the Mosaic Tina Brooks Box set.

@RedRiver: Tina Brooks True Blue is available from Music Matters for $59.95 or $74.95 in either traditional black vinyl or limited Blue vinyl. I prefer black when available over designer colors.

The “Stereo System” is a means to an end. Typically I refer to my sessions as a Music Session, not listening to “The Stereo”.

I got lucky on a couple of Tina Brooks’ LPs including this one (black version) from Music Matters:-) this is a keeper

Another Japanese RVG, Kenny Dorham “Whistle Stop”

Quite an interesting session, and KD and Mobley always sound good together, with a long history of playing side by side.

Followed by

Joe Henderson “Mode for Joe” Blue Note, US RVG cd this time.

Make perfect sense and appreciate sharing the experience; Some of my favorite music are in CD format; and depends upon recording, a lot of CDs can sound very similar to Vinyl (that extension, fullness, and directness), plus the advancement of the playback system (DMP + DS, why we are all here passionately), CD / SACD are also very enjoyable and emotionally engaging to listen to; I don’t think shinning disc will fade away anytime soon and still happily collect them!

Original release CD.

Getting excited for this Saturday night. A 31 year wait for me. Last time Buckwheat Zydeco as the opener (Clapton came on stage for his final song/jam session) and Mark Knopfler on “2nd Guitar”. This Saturday with Jimmie Vaughan as “2nd Guitar”.

Say what you will about 80’s Red Book CD’s, at least the loudness wars weren’t around then. Sounds great through the SGCD’s Coax input. My Mom bought this for me for my 19th Birthday (or was it a Christmas request). She’s still around and I’m still her sounding board (but she calls me more than I do her - I’m a horrible only child spoiled Brat).
