The mighty 2nd recorded in 1958 with NYP/Bernstein!

The newly released mono SACD of Bob Dylan āHighway 61 Revistedā
Neat. What do you think of the sound? Was the original release mono?
There were separate mono and stereo releases for the original, and they were separate, distinct mixes. This was a period of time when the mono mix was often given more attention by the artist(s) and producer than the stereo for the pop and rock and even jazz releases.
In the case of this album the mono is punchy and very full sounding, and this mastering to SACD is done very well. This is the sixth mono Dylan SACD released by Mobile Fidelity of seven planned, and I have all six released so far. I would say this and the first album I find the mono to be perhaps preferable to the stereo, and all six have been really good listens. (Mobile Fidelity Lab has released stereo SACDs of each, and others as well.)
Iām always awed by āDesolation Row.ā One for the ages.
Excellent! The mono release of Sgt. Pepperās is far superior to the stereo. I was suspecting this was the case her as well.
Coincidentally, I drove a bit of Highway 61 yesterday.
About six years ago Columbia/Sony released a box set of the first nine Dylan albums mastered to cd with the original mono mixes. Sound is really good on that box set, but the SACDs from Mobile Fidelity sound better to me.
Sgt. Pepperās I owned in mono from my first purchase of the album at the end of the 'sixties. . . I didnāt hear the stereo for a long long time. So I prefer the mono, but itās also in part because Iām so familiar with it.
A great deal more care was put into the Sgt. Pepperās mono mix and it shows. It is much better than the stereo.
630pm and already wearing out Waylon.
Thereās a theory, discussed on Hoffmanās site, that unlike the Beatles, the Kinks never took a good picture. Cracks me up! Love the Kinks!
Iām thankful for so much in my life. Certainly thanks to all the folks, especially PS Audio, that help bring all this fine music into my life. It makes everything thatās already good, better.
BTW, this CD includes my favorite version of Salee Dame ever. So joyful!
Groovy compilation. 1st disk has my wifeās song: Soul Finger. When weāre out at clubs and she gets a couple cocktails in her, she talks with a Soul Finger!
A time of the year that neither my daughter or wife bitch about my stereo. Thus farā¦
One of my favorite Xmas Albums.
Nice Christmas selections. Iām not there yet.
P.S. Just picked up Have Yourself a Jazzy Little Christmas. Looks really good!
Canāt recommend this enough if your tastes go in this direction. Analog tape heaven. Awesome dynamic mastering too! Just Red Book.
I rush Xmas in. Again, itās nearly the only time the family will come around the stereo.
