Of course. Which is why I noted “as a passion there are no trumpet parts.”
I’ve got a big soft spot in my musical heart for brass and percussion instrument arrangements and compositions. This is an excellent release from 2002 if you enjoy compositions in this genre.
I’m into Bach and Northern Europe organs today. This two volume set of the Bach Orgelbuchlein is beautifully played by Kare Nordstoga (cathedral organist at Oslo Cathedral) on the Muller Organ (1735 – 1738), St. Bavo, Haarlem. Gorgeous sonics by Lawo.
I’ve heard that organ. It makes an absolutely enormous sound. It prompted me to buy a recording, that only served to confirm to me the limitations of domestic audio. The organ is the size of a house and if you could fit it in a house it wouldn’t last long.
Piet Kee was of course the leading organist of his generation (even I know that) and was the Organist at St Bavo for 45 years.
The Oslo Cathedral, incidentally, has the strangest decoration I can recall. Did not hear the organ.
I am familiar with Piet Kee. What I didn’t remember is that he was the Organist at St. Bavo!
Lawo also has an organ recording with Kåre Nordstoga performing on his “home organ” at Oslo Cathedral. Interestingly (to me at least), he performs the Bach Toccata and Fugue in D minor on the Oslo organ which is a modern organ (built in 1998 retaining the Baroque organ facade of 1727). But, I don’t care for this recording as much as on his recording on the smaller organ at St. Johannis in Luneburg. Interesting how things go with the sound quality of various organs.
On the other hand, his performances on the Oslo organ of Reger, Lindberg and Grieg I find very enjoyable.
The buildings are completely different. The only thing they have in common is being Lutheran. I suspect that has something to do with it. He’s another northern one, a top notch modern organ apparently.
The exterior looks familiar. Do you know the name/location?
I should do since they’re my photos.
Hallgrimskirkja
Haha! Thanks!
Sono Luminous records a lot in Iceland. I’ll have to peruse their catalog to see if they’re recorded there.
The cathedral was influenced by this little waterfall, known as the black waterfall and the rock is referred to as the pipe organs.
Here is a (poor quality) picture I took last summer in this church.
I also recorded some performance rehearsals.
One of the recordings which exploded in sound quality just with the lowering of a modded Mk I‘s cap value (C704]
Have a new DAC. Bought this audiophile edition LP, too, now.
So you improved your DAC and celebrated by replacing it and buying a record! Makes perfect sense!
