My wife and I watched this last night. Wow! This is fantastic! The production is top notch, as is the music. This will put you in the Christmas spirit. Highly recommend!
This group will perform at the Hungry Brain in Chicago on Dec. 14 and 15 at 7:30 PM on Saturday and 9 PM on Sunday !
It’s been years since I’ve spun this one, thanks.
When I was a young teenager, I worked in a record store and Mannheim Steamroller was in heavy rotation. It was not a democracy regarding the LP playing when the owner was working, otherwise just about anything went.
That’s cool. Where did you work? Was it a chain or independent store? We have several record stores here in the northern Colorado area, several being a relative term. Most of them deal in used vinyl, but Barnes & Noble bookstores have started carrying the new reissues. Makes it fun to go shopping again!
It was independent little shop in Placerville, CA - circa 1982
Cassettes were the big thing along with The Walkman. We had 2 turntables (and no microphone) to spin to our hearts content.
We also have a few headphone listening stations which I thought was very cool for the day.
None of it was upscale or pretentious in the slightest. Everyone would come in, cool kids, jocks, stoners, punks, mods, dweebs and geeks. As anyone could play whatever they chose we would often have very eclectic, wide ranging, different tracks going on.
It’s probably why I choose to rarely listen to entire album, rather make mixes of my favorite old and new tracks. And bounce from extreme to extreme genre-wise.
That’s great! Reminds me why I liked the independent stores better than the chains. It seems (in my mind anyway) that they had a wider selection. Thanks for sharing your story!
Reminds me of the recent tiff we had with Elk about Ginger Baker…
No tiff, only full disclosure.
