What subwoofer if any are you using in your system?

Swarm looks great! But what about those decks on the wall?

Cool room!

thanks! they are from 2008-2009 from a skate company called Western Addition. I also have a Bitches Brew set in my other room. Funny when I bought them I was more into the skate art than jazz music. Foreshadowing.

Thanks for the response! Always thought about putting my old skate decks in my listening room but they’re too beat up to look good. Those look great! Clean with style.

Enjoy man!

Axiom Audio 12" 500W Al. Coned sub, called the EpiCenter! Why, guess because in room response is flat to 18hz, easily handles the lowest pipe organ pedal tones, but surprisingly is very musical with great bass tonality and very low distortion. I have it low passed at 50 hz and my 2-way Ascend Acoustic Sierra-2EX monitors high passed at 50hz…combo is an Amazing blend of synergy and spacious 3D sound!!

Any issues with vibration?

Not only does it depend on the room, which is the other half of the speaker system, there is no real need for subs when you already have enough driver surface area and are properly setup to feed the speakers. If your choice is a small footprint bookshelf or smaller speaker, then subs can assist, but as said in a comparative saying from the auto industry, there is no replacement for displacement. As you introduce another driver and cabinet, like subs, you introduce a myriad of other spacial, time and phase alignment issues you don’t want. My JBL Studio monitors do quite well all the way to 20Hz without subs. In fact, anechoic measurements are only -2dB at 20Hz, so it takes little room rise to get all the thump you could ever want. The real problem with most I come into contact with, they have never heard a large displacement speaker system in lieu of “fashionable” small diameter, small footprint speaker systems which are starved for displacement, therefore, requiring a sub to fill that deficiency.

Paul,

Surprisingly, I’ve no vibration or feedback issues. My listening room is 10ft x 9ft and am able to easily energize my intimate near-field listening space with 106db+ dynamic peaks without clipping, feedback or strain (20hz-28Khz)! The small .5cf S2-EX monitors completely disappear and soundstage (genre/recording dependent) can open up well beyond all room boundaries! Typically, have to pick listener jaws off the floor (at times, including mine)!!

I replaced my Klein + Hummel O 810 sub (identical to the Neumann 810) with a Velodyne Digital Drive 10 Plus.

They are helping a pair of ATC SCM50 ASL (driven full range).

Edit/Add: While the ATC are connected by Iconoclast XLR, the sub is connected via RCA from the Pass Pre. Crossover is 62 Hz, Velodyne AutoEQ applied.

I’m using the old REW generated convolution filter, but given the identical room placement and similar unit specs this seems (and sounds) OK. Still, generating new filters with the new sub (with different house curves to compensate for loudness) is high on my to-do-list.

I’m using a pair of Power Sound Audio S1500 with a MiniDSP 2x4HD for the 2-ch integration. It’s only for the subs and is not used for the full range output from the BHK Pre to the XA60.5

10 x 9 is definitely a near field experience. I’m sure that set up rocks that room!

Curious…Are you referring to the JBL 708P Master Reference Monitors?

The new Master Reference Series isn’t one that I’ve had any time with, but as with the new M2, using electronics for speaker/room adjustments, and powered Class D internally is where Harman seems to be moving the line. In fixed installations in larger areas I too leverage items like a DriveRack 260 or 360. But no, mine are an older Greg Timbers design with vertically oriented compression driver/horn arrangement. And to be honest, this gives better control than horizontal designs, but the sad fact is the market doesn’t like the appearance of vertically oriented horn design which is why you don’t see them commercially often.

I have some original IMF … there is no need to put sub on lol

TDL RTL 3s were my first ‘full’ range HiFi speakers back in cillege. Not as good as your TDL Reference speaks but they did sound alright. A buddy of mine still has them in his basement!

Using 2 Sumiko S5 Subwoofers with my Dynaudio S40’s. Using high level neutrik connectors with my M1200’s.

As of today, and I cannot believe FedEx actually brought them this morning since it’s a fairly big holiday here and I ordered them thursday evening, I am running a pair of SVS SB-3000 Subs. Played golf so only have a few minutes listening and so far so good. The App is quite nice although you have to repeat whatever settings you have for one rather than setting say the phase or low pass for both at the same time.
