Which power supply are you guys using with your Matrix X-SPDIF 2? - 5v or 9v?

Ok, next time I will suggest you look it up on Google and not provide a link. That link was the first hit for “LDO”.

@speed-racer what you say makes complete sense and is true. However, it does not explain why a lot of people are reporting that Matrix fed 9V sounds better than 7V. Also repeatedly saying ‘google is your friend’ just gets people’s backs up.

I prefer to ask the poster what the abbreviation they’re using in their post stands for. I doubt that anyone else that I’ve encountered on this forum would have taken offense to the question, but would have simply said Low-dropout Regulator.

Agreed; more clarity, less snark.

Less snark? Since when is reminding people they can look things up on their own “snark”? I even included the answer to his question. This is entitled bulls***!

LDO is not some magical acronym that has a zillion possible power-related phrases associated with it. I had to look at the middle of the second page of hits to find the first non-power regulator related hit. You folks are just overly sensitive. Don’t be so damn lazy…

The only explanation other than bias is the 9v power supply they are using makes a lot less noise at 9v vs whatever power supply they used at 7v.

For example, I recently replaced a 7v Small Green Computer LPS with a 7v Teddy Pardo LPS. I noticed a small but clearly evident improvement in separation. The Teddy Pardo is actually closer to 7v at 7.15v than the SGC at 7.65v. The improvement is not in the voltage…it is in the lower noise level.

There was no need for the gratuitous “Google is your friend” comment. A pleasant direct answer to the question was the appropriate response.

Yes, we can all handle snide, but we should not have to. It also has nothing to do with being lazy or overly sensitive. It is instead being part of a helpful community.

I doubt many of us in direct, in person conversation with friends would respond “Look it up” when asked a question. At least I hope not.

We weren’t in an “in person” conversation. He could have looked up the answer faster than asking the question here…

That is not the point, as I am certain you are well aware.

Is there a tool and measurement for noise on a DC line? Also, would batteries have zero noise?

Apparently batteries are not necessarily quiet

An oscilloscope would be what you need for a tool and no, batteries should not have noise.

Batteries are not noiseless and have other major problems when used to power DC devices.

The SGC’s are adjustable. I do agree the matrix sounds best at 6V versus 7 or 9 with SGC. My HD Plex 300?just arrived but system is apart for home remodel. I am excited to try an alternative. There is huge difference in sound changing voltage on Matrix . But my preference is probably different than others. My ears equate 9V to extreme feedback. I like the cleaner sound.

In my current situation I am powering one of my UltraRendus with a 9v feed from an Sbooster + Ultra MKII and letting the Matrix be powered over my Shunyata Sigma USB cable. So I would assume the Matrix is getting 5 volts from the UltraRendu. It sounds nice.

Extreme Feedback you say? My goodness.

I am using the Uptone JS 2 set at 7v. No complaints.

Too lazy to peruse the entire forum, but has anyone done a head-to-head comparison of the UpTone UltraCap LPS-1.2 against the SGC LPS?

Ahhh, yeah. I have.

So - looking up your past posts, it would seem you preferred the Uptone over the SGC. But I didn’t see any follow-up on the Teddy Pardo unit you were expecting.

I would value your observations.
Thanks
