Why so low...?

I’ve been wanting to ask this question for a long time, why does my CD player sound so low when connected to DS dac ? This has been happening since day one of ownership.
The Bridge II, and other streaming devices that I’ve tried via USB have the expected levels, but I’ve tried connecting two different CD players via RCA and the volume is at least half or less of what it normally is with other inputs, I’ve opted to running it directly into the preamp, fortunately this works well.
Why is this happening. Are the rca inputs useless?
Thank you

RC

All digital inputs have the same level by definition (a given bit pattern will have the same volume no matter which digital input is used.) The DS only has one volume control which is on the outputs and no volume controls on the inputs. I’m not sure how what I think you are saying can happen unless your RCA sources have volume controls…

Thanks for replying Ted, well kind of a bummer now.
All that is happening is that when any my CD players is connected to the dac via rca input the gain/ volume is dramatically lower the when plug directly in the pre amp, no volume controls on CD players except the one for headphones. Dac volume fixed at 100. Bridge and other steamers play around 65-70 db with preamp volume at 35%.
If I plug it into dac I would need 65 % and up to achieve the same level of volume. Unfortunately I’ve opted to not run CD players thru the dac.

I think I may have found the problem, I think I’m not be connecting things properly, need to do some tinkering… I may not have the correct cables…
I’ll report back later.

You should only connect an digital cable from the cd player to the DAC
