Words to live by.
Having heard a demo of the latest DCS Varese vs. the previous flagship I was pretty shocked at how seemingly small refinements and better measurements made such a big impact on sound quality.
Isnāt that 200k?
Looks like PS Audio [political comments deleted - Elk] 1. Ignoring the genuine concern from Mk2 owners.2. Not commenting on anything negative 3. Providing no way forward.
Like a lot of you, I was hoping to get at least a couple more updates on the MKII DAC. But I can understand PS Audio going in a different direction. Digital audio playback is changing so fast I canāt keep up with it. Actually, my only concern is the rollout of the new products. Usually, PS Audio gives you a pretty good discount on the new product if you have the old to trade in. I have the BHK preamp as well as the MKII DAC . My problem is even with a generous discount if the products are released within 2 or 3 months of one another; I will quickly need some cash on hand if I want to purchase both as I donāt like to do credit unless it is interest free.
I am not happy with the move away either, but its not easy maintaining the FPGA code and like many other companies cannot find someone to do it right for years.
Right here on this forum the CEO, Paul, has stated there will be a āgenerous buy backā. HIs words not mine. They have not officially announced the numbers but when I called and put a deposit down (very small $250) they mentioned they are working on it as we spoke. Next week I believe was the timeframe mentioned. If they give me a good path I will take it. Not happy, but not angry either. They took care of us going MK1 to MKII, so I hope the same is done here.
Thereās always something better coming down the road. Since November I have purchased a BHK Pre, knowing it was on the way out, half off when purchased, and a Mk II, with latest updates and a trade in, with expectations of possible further updates, as well as a Jays CDT3. These were and still are considered endgame pieces for me. I can only wish the best for the future for PS Audio. For me, Iāve achieved a best ever level sound and it couldnāt have happened any other way than it did. Iām happier than a pig in sh*ā¬!
Thereās always going to be a next big revolutionary breakthrough the will set audio world on its ear. I, on the other hand, am content with what I have and smile about my good fortune thus far. Nothing is ever written in stone, be happier with what you have, not pissed at what could have been.
Thatās an unfair comparison. Business decisions are in a different category than political actions. Letās take it down a notch.

Congratās on the new PMG Line to all involved. I Really like the new case design, prevents all the gap issues. I will be holding on to my MK2 and BHK pre as they are to new to me and i tend to hold onto my components maybe more than others. However i am going to upgrade my current amp to the new PMG amp when it comes out as long as it has great synergy with the BHK pre. Congratās again to Paul and company.
Thank you Elk. Plenty of politics on the news. No place for it here.
And as stated above and i hope most people grasp, this was a business decision. Give Paul and company some time to offer a reconciliation of sorts and lets move on.
PS Audio has always shown that as a company, the customer plays an important role in development etc. Much more so than most.
However they also have a responsibility to thier employees and thier future in the industry.
Thier dedication to customer involvement and concern wonāt mean much if they cant make a profit.
So couple questions. Do we foresee any issue going forward if my MkI or a mkii has a hardware issue? Assume it will be supported.
Also - if another company wanted to continue with mods - and if that company was run by Ted smith - would ps audio have any issues with that
Any non compete issues here?
Letās also have a sense of humour
Political āhumorā is only funny to those who are of the same persuasion. Thus, it is a no go here.
Yup. I love political humor, a lot, but I am the first to agree that most of it is divisive.
I am waiting for the new PMG amp as well, and I hope they are mono blocks, but not in monster weight.
I still own MK2 and PST too but have no desire to upgrade them soon since I only use them for listening to discs. The last time I listened to any disc was a few days ago, and I only played a couple during dinner. It is not because PST/MK2 do not sound good (they still sound better than streaming), but the streaming SQ has been so much better since MU2 and other related upgrades. I do not need to think about new DAC and pre anymore. Even the desire to get expensive cables seems to die down.
Im sure there will be a stereo version as well as monoās. Im with you, with new technologies hopefully in a more compact case/caseās. My Levinson weighās 112 lbs, im getting to old to be moving this s#*t.
Only time Iāve moved my BHK 250 since purchasing it is to replace the tubes. Next time it gets moved from the listening room will be either because Iāve decided to move or sell the amp.
Do you own iconoclast? They are so worth it.
I think there was a question regarding if the op amp is discrete. I asked someone at PS and it is.
I owned two pairs of Iconoclast UPOCC XLR and have tried their top tier Bi-wired speaker cables too. Yes, I agree they are excellent cables.
