I’ve had my Bridge II out for a while. Device Volume means that the device itself controls the volume, if I’m not mistaken. Have you gone into the Bridge settings? My Bridge is out so I can’t walk through it.
Almost 1 month later and he USB issue I was having has been resolved.
It turns out that the problem I was experiencing was not related to the Windom upgrade at all. With the help of @CustomerServiceWizard and Mark Simpson, (Sorry Mark, I couldn’t find an @ tag for you) at PS Audio support, and some extensive testing with different USB cables and different sources, we concluded that the best course of action would be to send the DAC for a round-trip to Boulder for some TLC. The wonderful Technology Doctors at the Boulder lab determined that the the digital board needed to be replaced.
I got the DAC back this past Sunday and there are no longer any USB issues. Furthermore, the sound quality that I now get from my system is simply glorious and very much ASMR inducing! Much better than what I was experiencing prior to the trip to Boulder.
Thanks for getting this corrected. It’s going to be a great winter in the listening room this year.
Thanks for sharing, and a tip of the hat to the PSA techs who resolved the issue.
Hello and Help
When upgrading to Windom, I unplugged the ethernet as instructed. The DS upgrades as expected; however, the network does not work. The screen displays a red network and I can not get it to work. So I did the Windom upgrade with the ethernet plugged in, and it worked. Why is it important to unplug the ethernet during the upgrade and why should the upgrade fail when it is unplugged?
Did you try powering it off/on?
I’ve never unplugged my Ethernet cable when doing updates. Some DSD’s are problematic when doing updates and the first rule is to unplug everything. You should also reboot several times with the card removed after the update.
yes, powered on and off several times. First time I have had any problem doing the updates. interesting?
hi all. I’m late to the party and just tried to update to Windom via Ether on mac. all seems ok, but when I tried to install onto the DSDac, front light just blinks non stop. I’ve tried the same process several times and still no good. When I tried to go back to the previous firmwares, front button just goes dark and screen is not reacting anymore. What should I do please?
Welcome William! I’m going to send you a quick email with some files. Not all, but in most cases, this behavior comes up because of a corrupt SD card. We’ll get you going in no time.
Welcome, William!
Let us know how it goes.
hi all
I transferred your set of files onto a new 8GB SD disk reformated to MS FAT. But as I turned on the DSDac, the front light just keep on blinking non stop. The touch screen and all functions remain inaccessible.
But one thing is, during the reboot of the DSDac, it seem like it was pulling an power surge from the P10, my other equipments suddenly reset itself. But no change in indication from the P10. so I’ve tried plugging the DSDac directly into the mains instead of the P10. But the front light blinking continues.
any other thoughts please?
regards
Wil
You don’t by chance happen to have an HDMI/I2S cable plugged into the DS Jr. do you? Also if an ethernet cable remove that and lastly after shutting down pull the plug from the back of the DS and let it sit a bit.
no the I2S slots are all empty, and I do not have a ethernet cable attached to the DS. I’ve tried to pull plug and let it sit there. None of it working.

Wil
You might have to load one of the older versions. I think on one of my DSDac’s I had to load Huron first and then Windom loaded OK. I also used a 4gb card as sometimes the bigger cards cause a problem. You might try just leaving it sit with the light flashing for a few hours.
tried that already. Tried Huron, and Yale respectively. still blinking and not uploading the files into the DSDac.
This happened to me after about the second set of updates. I ended up sending the unit back to the mothership to be fixed. . . my limited skills just led to blinking blinking blinking. I hope you find a way to avoid this! After that I always bought an SD card from PS Audio to use and have had zero issues (except possibly bad loads of Windom intitially . . . )
This has been my practice and experience as well.
Reach out to PSA and I would be willing to wager they would send you a pre-loaded card, gratis – given the issues you have been having.
Good luck with the fix.
I do not know what MS FAT is, but the card needs to be formatted FAT32.
…or FAT16. I know because the SD card I use to upgrade my DirectStream is formatted as FAT16.
It’s supposed to blink for a few minutes before initializing. How long have you given it?
