Still got VHS eh?
That’s S-VHS to you Mr. VMAX!!!
Oh yeah, I thought just the little speakers were called Metas.
I was talking about LS50 Metas.
I have a pair of ordinary LS50’s up at my lake place. If they are good enough to be John Atkinson’s main speakers they are good enough for me. But the Meta version is supposed to be a nice step up.
I use a 4K Firestick for streaming and an Oppo 203 for spinning things. I love my Firestick, the Oppo not so much. Panasonic in my future.
I have never considered our Oppo as part of the 2chan system. It’s only hooked up to the Anthem for movies.
I have a theater setup in another part of the room that my main system is in. B&W 803n mains, 805n surrounds, HTMx Center, Anthem AVM 60 yadda yadda yadda.
Oh, a 65 inch Sony OLED. And just one chair.
Perfect for watching the finest show of all time, Outer Range.
Another Gryphon for sale item that went up in Australia today - https://www.stereonet.com/forums/topic/540388-fs-gryphon-pendragon-speaker-system/ sigh …
I didn’t see a price.
I have only heard one pair of Gryphon speakers and they haven’t been released yet. They were impressive. Those look amazing.
Went with the safe pick: gloss black/gray. The white with blue tweeter would have worked and look pretty sweet.
$105K AUD so around $75k USD
I was using my Oppo for both. It’s a good player and very good when modified. My modified oppo 203 bested a Jays Audio CDT2 MK3 using an AQ Dragon I2S IMO.
It’s also how I originally discovered Roon as a end point. I wasn’t crazy about the sound quality for that but the Oppo 203/205 is definitely the Swiss Army knife of home theater and audio! There’s not much it can’t do!
Currently using Oppo 205 feeding DS via DH Labs Silversonic 750
digital cable…results are superb…Oppo 205 is my server.
Why Oppo 205? The Oppo media control on my tablet is
THE key…all music is on a thumb drive…easy peasy
no muss no fuss…no runs no drips no errors.
Just my thoughts…
Best wishes everyone!!!
Hopefully PS Audio et all will come up with a similar media
controlled affordable server …
Roon and the likes…never…why pay them for the use of my own music…
One day my dream player to surpass my Oppo 205 will materialize.
The added value of Roon is the meta data and the ability to quickly explore new music. New music exploration does need a service like Tidal or what I’ve chosen, Qobuz. There’s an expense to all this, so I do understand the hesitation. But, to me, it’s really worth it.
Vince thanks for sharing …
Best wishes
And it costs less than a couple of high falutin’ fuses.
Ya but…the high this also requires high falutin’ expenditures
on gear… for it all to work …right?
Ha ha
Best wishes
I have to agree with Vince. The true value of Roon is not just playing your library, but way it combines your music with streaming provider and showing you what don’t know you would like. I love picking a song I love, hit play roon radio from here and off it goes. Found so many more artists I never knew about. Not to mention tags and sorting etc… I have the 203 and used to use it via network to play my NAS multi channel. But its flaky at best. It is not supported and it will die at some point. My new Marantz has Helos, which is pretty cool to use.
I have a friend who is like you David. He has what he has and has not interest in “exploring” just wants to play what he has. Was using storage attached to 203. After a while the app did not work on his ipad mini. Now he uses Helos. To each his own. But from what I heard Paul said they gave up on PS Audio’s software right? Going to Roon and most likely Udpn (is that right term?) for jriver or some other PC app.
For me I want nothing to do with a computer in my music room. Roon’s multi zone/room and DSP, conversion capabilities which even Ted Smith said was done right even for DSD. 1600 for a core, lifetime sub and NAS total. Thats a bargain for audiophile server. Which is how I really look at it.
Thanks Brian…maybe one day …one never knows…
Best wishes
Yeah I will admit its not for everyone, but I love it.
I could not agree more.
One of my favorite things about Roon…
Downside is that my list of music to buy keeps growing and growing…
