Only had one place on my bucket list for about 25 years and it did not disappoint.
My preference is to walk into the sunrise where possible, so an early start is always a good thing.
Yes, the ZEN Mk 3 seems to fit the bill. Having a ZENith Mk 3 and Phoenix re-clocker I am familiar with the Innuos house sound and Sense app. No PSA DSD in my future.
I never even thought of wearing headphones while hiking. I like the sounds of the forest. One of my happiest hiking experiences is finding my two favorite woodpeckers.
I’m with you Ron. I don’t do “sound on the go” on foot. . . there is so much to experience with the wind in the trees and the birds and the other sounds of nature even here in my sparsely-housed neighborhood by a state wildlife preserve. Plus. . . it’s great to be able to hear oncoming cars on these narrow streets and to not be distracted and able to monitor my walking companion, Fiona the sometimes wily red miniature dachshund.
My approach to hiking is go slow, absorb the experience using all my senses. Fortunately I have some fine hiking opportunities within a 2 hour drive. Many are within 30 minutes.
There seems to be moderate interest in Hiking and outdoor activities in general. Maybe I should start a dedicated thread. Let me know of the your interest. If there is sufficient community interest I may start a thread dedicated to the great outdoors. Hiking, biking, XC-skiing, snow shoeing, sailing, etc.
In the Cairngorms in June the sun rises at 4 in the morning. We were in Scotland in 2020 and 2021, in 2020 we did a hill a day (about 1,000m each), 4 or 5 hours in total, back in time for lunch. Around the Spey and the Dee (Royal Deeside) there are beautiful river walks, a pleasant day off from hills.
As I’m now totally unfit, it is great because there is every grade of walk and beauty everywhere.
In the old days I used to do slightly more challenging walks.
Nice spot. Been there. Palm Springs area has some nature to be seen. The trip up to Idyllwild is nice too.
Beautiful area as well as fantastic photos.
A place I’ve been ‘many times’ in my life but its never looked any thing like the photo image! Looks like the pack mules are wearing oxygen masks.?
That’s not the cairngorms.
There were some pictures going up Morrone, a gentle walk, from Braemar you just walk out of the hotel, the top is 859m, and you get great views. That’s the pleasure of Scotland, lots of reward often without much effort.

A very nice, effective upgrade that is free, is to separate digital from analog components.
While listening to a friend’s system, I suggested that he rearrange his components.
He has a two box phono stage, the power chassis was sitting atop his Denafrips Terminator and the control chassis was sitting atop his PS Audio PST. Although there previously was no perceptible noise,
putting these 2 boxes temporarily on the floor made a substantial improvement that surprised everyone in the room. Free.
I usually attribute it to the whiskies as well.
I recently asked Tim about shipping on Red, since the website said they were in stock. He said Red is a special order item. Their team is on vacation until FEB 15th. Orders would ship in late FEB/early March.
That’s why I’ve held off on ordering until the Chinese New Year vacations were over otherwise the charge would just sit on your card. Plus I would just be ordering it to experiment with.
Free unless you have to buy longer expensive interconnects. But I agree it is a great tweak as well as improving the powercords of those devices with foil RF /EMI shields.
Our next upgrade, which is really my wife’s birthday present, is going to be here tomorrow. From what I can tell once it’s grounded properly it won’t create any electrical noise ;-).
I am going to have it mounted on our porch roof with the head leaning over the roofline right over the pathway to the porch steps.
Whoa— Mounting where you said is a good idea.
I can see this taking some getting used to on my way to the can in the middle of the night.
I dig it but if I gave it to my girlfriend as a birthday present, I’d be searching for a new girlfriend pretty soon after. She’s a bit more traditional ie: jewelry on her birthday…
Best,
-JP
