Your Next Upgrade? (Part 1)

Either a Hegel P30 or BHK Pre. It’s a major step up.

I was considering a VAC, but got some advice around how much of the cost of the VAC was in two chassis and the fit and finish vs the same price for the VTL with less bling but better sonics. Of course, just like everything else in this hobby, it’s all subjective.

Way to celebrate that cake day!

Definitely. I prefer the sound of VAC gear to VTL.

Nice machine, congratulations!
Gonna be fun rolling 12AU7’s in it. If you can score a pair of Siemens 5814A triple mica…don’t hesitate

Best,

I forgot to mention that the VTL TL6.5 has a fuse! So there’s that to contend with.

There’s no guessing where the 46lbs are coming from:

Yes, I am excited!

Vince are you still running the Jeff Rowland 625 S2 amplification into the Sopra 2 speakers?

Wow, that’s a very heavily laden and fully featured unit, very impressive!

Yes, for the time being. If I see a pair of 735’s I will jump on them.

Congratulations. Hopefully the BHK pre sells quicker than the mk2 did.

The hand written model and serial number is not too common unless something is stolen. Hopefully you got a deal good enough to be hot.

Those are different trigger connections than you usually see. Hopefully only cable and not the voltage are nonstandard.

I decided my listening room need another subwoofer put a deposit on a Tri-color one today to accompany the 5 year old Blenheim colored one. Whose position self distributes between sweet spot and at the foot of the right channel speaker during listening sessions.

Hopefully the newer model doesn’t have as large a rattling snore that gets loudest when recording Bacch dSP filters

So you managed to put that on my radar. Please do share your observations on that preamp after you’ve had time to break it in.

It’s more than I’m planning to budget at the moment, but a good 2-channel preamp is likely my next big purchase and it might be worth the “stretch.” I’m still considering the CODA 07x and Pass XP-22 or XP-32, but I think the VTL model you picked up might be well worth an audition.

I happen to like the fact that the company is ~25 minutes away from me too…

Did you buy new or used?

Used. I almost always buy used. I like the added bang for buck.

It’s a Phoenix connector, p/n 1792757. The trigger is 12V.

It’s supposed to come with two, but just in case I ordered a few from Digi-Key. I have plenty of cable and TRS connectors to build the lengths I need.

…and I’ll add without such drastic pricing measures.
