I wonder how it differs and compares to the dCS Network Bridge, which is very well regarded/reviewed?
Seems similar in form and function…

Unfortunately, the dCS Network Bridge has recently been discontinued (now a ‘legacy product’), so the entry level for dCS is now Bartok.
Oh, I did not know that. I better snap one up.

There may be some stock available from the dealer network, but it might prove challenging as dCS made the announcement on 17th May so, whatever stock was held by the dealers before then, is likely to dwindle quickly.

The reviews all claim the Grimm has mystical powers. One guy put up a chart listing how many times per listening session he got goosebumps. I am not kidding.
The other thing is this device has inputs. Plug your cd transport into it and it will work its magic on it. It has an fpga stage in it that upsamples and cures the audio.
Mystical Powers, yours for less than $13k with an 8TB SSD inside. (SSD is optional)

Frankly, I think that’s the miss with this device for me. The Magic should be focused on the network input and the USB output. To me that they don’t seem to really understand the marketplace. Hi-res streaming is our future. The convenience and immediacy of streaming can’t be denied.
Don’t get me wrong, I am really happy to read about your excitement and your willingness to plunk down money where your heart takes you. That’s fantastic. I am looking forward to reading about the joy you get from it.

Apparently the reason for not using either of those two outputs is the fact that the clock signal can be passed on the AES/EBU cable and this is a key reason why the device sounds so much better than other similar devices. They favor the AES for technology reasons. It also has USB outputs and the device works with USB and Ethernet but the magic only works over AES/EBU.

Oh I don’t know. Oddly enough there is a local dealer I had not heard of yet who actually allows people to take home and try gear. So one of the three Grimm dealers in the US is in my town. Seems like I am supposed to try this. He is currently out of stock and I’m not really in a hurry as I need to find a way to pay for these expensive Stealth Audio speaker cables. You shouldn’t hold your breath waiting for me to get one. It could be days…
