Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Hopefully I get 4 local movers to show up tomorrow. Otherwise these will be sitting in these well designed crates.

Changed job, working for a Swiss company now and have to visit ZĂźrich on a regular basis. This brick and mortar store is right next to my Hotel and 5 minutes from our office.

I don’t know what to to after being done with working?!

That looks like quite the store!

Congrats, but didn’t you already have MBL? Surround setup now?

Not surround…just too many systems. A pair of MBL 120s ana 101s. Not a surround sound guy anymore. Movie quality has dropped the past 20 years. Sound is better but the plots, acting, and cinematography are generally worse.

I find the scripts to be inane so often that I just don’t bother.

The first two episodes of the new season of Fargo seem so very DARK. (not the color of the scenes Chas, the MOOD) It might actually be too dark for me. But I will continue watching.

I feel like avoiding the standard “old guy” comment that “Nothing is as good as it used to be”. I find plenty of things that are Way, Way, Way better than what used to be. Maybe I am just easily impressed, but I don’t think so. I even enjoy Marvel movies so that says something awful about me I suppose. They seem fun to me. If you are against fun, so be it.

I told my friend (the one who can’t stand the sound of digital no matter what it cost.) that I got these $18k speaker cable and after hearing them, there’s absolutely no way I could go back the the cables I had before. Yes, he has listened the the DCS Valvildi stack and the MSB Select before, and it don’t impress him. He says it still sounds digital. Oh well. Now he tells me there’s no way he would paid so much for a speaker cable. He is using a top of the line Synergistic Research Apex from some years ago that back then the $6k he paid was already too much. Today he just had to bring his Apex over to my place and find out the difference for himself. We listened to a bunch of music and he notice right away the sound was much better than the last time he came over. But since then I had change the phono cable from a bottom line cable to a top line cable, and put brass Mega Footer supports to kill the bass resonunce that was transfering to the floor and made the floor vibrate too much because the Wilson goes below 20hz in my room and is extraordinarily dynamic. Anyway, we took my speaker cables off and put in his Apex’s and the sound became bland! The excitement is gone. The presence, richness of tone and dynamic contrast was truncated. Not small, but huge difference! Now he’s a believer and he will try to sell his old Apex cables. But I did warn him he shouldn’t try to compare these cable, now he’s haunted with the feeling to upgrade.

Are those collars some kind of tuning rings? When I switch speakers I may try these. My current speakers use quad-wired terminals, and I don’t even have room in the back to connect these monsters😲

My sister’s turkey was much improved from years ago, but it’s way under cooked this time (vs. way overcooked last time). I hope I will not get sick from bloody turkey tomorrow.

I once had some undercooked fish and I had the runs you wouldn’t believe, took me awaile to recover. Hope you don’t go through the same disaster.

Yes, those tuning bullets come in gold and silver. Gold for a warmer balance and silver for a more brighter detailed presentation. I use the gold for a slightly fuller sound. The tuning is done in the dielectric and not in the signal path.

Total assembly time was probably 12 man hours with 4 of us for 2hours

and me doing solo prep and post work. 100 hours of break in and then many more days of tweaks with positioning, settings, and acoustic treatments.

Oh my!

The LF components are particularly impressive. That is an outstanding loudspeaker system, with an emphasis on SYSTEM.
