Your Next Upgrade? (Part 2)

Swap the power and source components already. :confounded:
Lol

Is there a chance to power the new Mac Mini M4 with an external LPS?

Ha! 50th birthday?! That sure wasn’t me! :weary:

Me neither! I’ve only ā€œsplurgedā€ since retirement!

This Krell is for sale for less than $2200. Not 22 thousand. $2200 for a Class A Krell. And older model, not the newer goober stuff. I wish I had an excuse to buy it.

Wall panels from GIK arrived today, but did not unbox them as I was having too much fun listening to music with the new/used amp today. Will work on treating the room for the 2nd system another day.

I don’t have an excuse to buy another Krell either. I am very familiar with their sound and they were beasts. But I’m ready for something different. You should give it a try!

Hopeless. Enjoy.

I’ll get a new amp, but just not an old Krell. There was a reason I went all tubes after owning them for 10 years.

Did you say tubes? @vkennedy61 found these for you!

Is it April 1st already? Suddenly you all want me to change amps right now. Folks, I’m not suffering here. I really enjoy my system.

But I agree amp is very important, and that’s why I am taking my time.

Rolling tubes is funny but I prefer solid state after BHK Pre and M1200s experience. I remember chatting with Donald about Gold Lions or Telefunken tubes, it was really amazing. But I had several issues, faulty tubes, hum from speakers and bla bla bla. Solid state is my world, no doubt.

Class A always tempted me, once again my concern is a stupid thing: buzz noise from giant toroidal transformers. My dead room doesn’t forgive… you can hear a fly sneezing 3 meters away!

Class A/B and or Class D agree with you Donald can be the right compromise.

Luca my friend, you understand me better  I switched from the Krell oven to a bigger BAT oven. That twin had 20 tubes if I remember right. I used to have nightmares when I need to change tubes on them.

I would even consider a 333 before I go back to Class A or all tubes. BHK600s and Jeff R. are more of my things though.

Interesting; I’ve never associated Class A with buzzing toroids or any other inherent maladies.
I’m running Class A monoblocks and the only way to know that they’re on without music playing is the display is lit.

Put your ears to the chassis, if you hear something imagine that in my room it is audible from the listening chair (I’m exaggerating obviously, but it’s to give you an idea!).

Thx Man !

I now have an amp that runs in ā€œClass A for most listeningā€ (or whatever the exact slogan is), but with a more refined tube preamp. I just can’t go 100% solid state (yet), even though my system has been progressing toward less and less tubes.

Get a stethoscope if you don’t have one and wear it around your neck and use it everyday…buzz a while…

I would think someone in China or the MacGyver website will soon offer other options go 12V DC units. I bought my card on eBay. But you might start watching Aliexpess. I saw a Reddit article where a user self modded his M4 Mini for 12V but was sparse on details. Perhaps contact him directly.
