Top tip: Do not put your ear or any delicate part of your body on a fully warmed up, high power true class A amplifier.
Update:
Plinths arrived today.
Good condition.
Pics below.
The base of my speakers are finished in Cherry. Should look great together…
More pics of installation later.
Today I installed fiber optic cables instead of a longer Ethernet cable connection. It’s probably too early to say anything, but the sound seems more analogue, a bit richer to me.
Just wanted to share my excitement about the Farad Super6 which lifted every connected device to a really new level!
Congratulations. The Farad Super 6 is a very good power supply. Which power cable and which DC cable do you use? And what did you connect it to?
When it’s new, it sounds very good on the first day. The dynamic capabilities were insane. My Super 10 had a slump for about two to three weeks after an excellent start. It sounded slow and closed. To get even better afterwards. This drop was a shock, and it sometimes sounded worse than my sbooster at that time. It’s worth persevering and it plays more and more smoothly over time.
Haha great that you mentioned that - and Farad also prepared me “mentally” about the exact same things that might happen as you managed. It started really great first 10hours and then had a “burn-in-journey” but now it’s really amazing and stable.
I am using a AudioQuest Dragon Source power cord with a modified LUMIN U2 Mini. Also tried it at a FritzBox router as well as a NAS. As DC cable I am using the new Farad L2-C, which is a very noticeable improvement over the previous L2-Classic btw!
Today I took the LHY SW6 switch out of the rack and placed it next to the router with a long fiber optic cable. Now I have connected the Audioquest Hurrican Source to the LHY again and the Audioquest Dragon to the Farad Super 10. Recently I had the Dragon on the LHY and a Furutech DPS-4.1 on the Farad LPS. The Dragon Source isn’t bad. It plays very openly. The Furutech DPS-4.1 produces a deeper soundstage and is slightly richer in its timbres. I chose the silver DC cable. I like the sound. Matjes from Farad prefers the copper version. He thinks it’s more neutral and warmer. Since I didn’t want to have too much weight in the low frequencies in my system, I chose the slightly more detailed and slimmer sounding silver cable. The Super 6 no longer has a fuse, and I think that’s an advantage. With the Farad 6, your Lumin Mini has definitely gone up a few notches. I now have my old Sbooster on the modem. However, the sound gain is less noticeable than on a switch or even a streamer.
The AQ power cords perform even better when connected to a AQ Niagara. Ya it’s great to choose between the copper and silver option of the new L2 cable to meet someone’s preferences.
The U2 Mini has some more internal tweaks and as you mentioned the power supply is just so important. I was astonished how much more dynamic, natural, calmer and resolving the Super6 made the LUMIN play. Also the new thermal magnetic circuit breaker (TMCB) is a highlight. I tried several fuses over the years, some alone costing nearly 4 digits so I am excited about the performance of the TMCB.
Yes sound gain is biggest noticeable on streamer or switch. For the modem I’d very much recommend a Network Acoustics filter like the ENO2.
Al, I know you are trying to help me made up my mind here for an amp, and I really appreciated that. But I have had enough of Krell. Thanks for thinking of me.
There is a Gryphon Diablo 333 barely used for sale, but he is not an authorized dealer. My question is Graphon warranty transferable? They advertisement is for a near-new condition 333 which is kind of weird.
I do not recommend buying Gryphon anything from a non authorized dealer. Warranty and service will not be available.
Thanks for the information! PZ has opened my eye to how good Gryphon can be. Well, I am adding it to my list.
Service will be available warranty doubtful. Tho gryphon service has been difficult to obtain.
Service from Pass Labs basically says: We love you. Thank you for buying our stuff. No BS. They are the very model of what customer service should be.
And I got calls from two people at Wilson making sure that I’m happy. When does that ever happen?
Hurray! That’s the way, Donald!
D333 + MU2 would be my ideal solution if I had to build from scratch a new system (and was tempted to do that a few months ago)!
Updated update…look pretty good, but might be a bit too tall:
Will get some music listening in after the Bears’ game.
Well, Jeff Rowland is in back burner, the first choice is now between Gryphon 333 and BHK600. I have a few months to decide, Gryphon will break my promise on monoblock, weight, color, and two sets of SC outputs, plus I need to redo my rack🤔 BHK will fit right in.
I had weird issues with my Gryphon Commander Preamp. After some back and forth email exchanges they sent me a new one. I was pleased and grateful.
I think you could get the BHK 600s for less than what the Diablo 333 would cost. I believe the Diablo is quite a bit more powerful. I could be wrong. Either would wow you.
I’m at work so no music but if I had a choice the Bears will lose fine while I enjoy music.
