Al, I have a stereo amp I use for surround channels that developed hum that is audible through the speakers.

No idea why this developed out of nowhere.

I had one of these lying around:

This eliminated the hum in my case.

Does anyone know if the BHK 300 has this? quick google below. I have two new FS12 SE from Rythmik I am hooking up. They worked, for a bit, then one now does not. I hooked up to the back of the amp second set of binding posts. Red to red black to black. I am having an issue with one of the Subs. it worked and now it does not. Did I break something?

Al
If one of your other components like the Commander or the PZ have a ground lug connect the negative wire of the REL subs to it. That worked for me with subs and the BHK 250.

Brian, I don’t know about the BHK, but I do know that the Rythmik high level cannot be used with floating output amps. That’s what kept me from buying them. I got this right from - what’s his name? - Brian Ding.

Yes, so did I buy the wrong version of Rythmik? and of course they are used. I should have checked this out..grrr. And of course I could just run some XLRs, but it only has RCA since they replaced the XLR with speaker level.

Happy cake my friend!

@dawkinsj so how did you hook up yours? on the phone with Brian Ding now. He mentioned I could try black to ground lug. on the 300 where is the lug. Looking at pictures at work now but do not see a dedicated lug.

happy cake day.

If you can temporarily grab RCA cables, you can use them to see if the subs still work.

No ground lug on the BHK amps. I used the ground lug on the preamp in my system but any ground lug in the system should work. Other option is to use a chassis screw.

Back in 2020, there was a good bit of discussion regarding hum when connecting differential output amps (specifically the BHK 250s/300s) to REL subwoofers.

Here is the thread: BHK Pre and Power on the Way - REL Subwoofer Question

Initially, PSAudio provided a free ground lug, to anyone who asked, that could be affixed to the amp rear panel. This did not fully resolve the issue for most - myself included.

REL then offered a resistor network that could be connected between the amp and REL subwoofer. It was offered for the princely sum of $100. Steep to be sure but it resolved the hum issue for virtually everyone (myself included).

My subs were plugged into the bad circuit. Moved them to a good circuit and they became silent again. But the amp. in a good circuit, still hums. I have the Emotive devices coming. Shipped today. I will give those a try for the amp.

Looking at your power cords to outlet photos - I would always remove those blue mesh plug protectors.
They can introduce static noise.

Good luck. In the effort to try everything, unplug the C214’s, not just switch them off. No reason, other than they specifically work in the 60 cycle range.
