Fyi the new PMG amps have a 4 pin cable output. PSA sell these special cables that connect direct to a 4 pin input on the F12 subs for high level connections w/o need to use speaker type cables. I should get my first ones to try this week.
The PMG M800’s arrived a few days ago. I was able to muscle them into position and they have been improving every day. They arrived unscathed on a pallet but I would recommend that you have a friend to help. It’s not the weight (less than the 600’s) but the length that makes them unwieldy.
The solid top vs. the lacquered one also makes the install easier. No fear of scratches when connecting stuff up. Another pleasant feature is that they run a bit cooler than the 600’s. You can rest your hand on the heat sinks without harm, even at highest output.
I’ll get into the sonic stuff in a few days when everything seems settled. Oh, and no fancy fuses to buy (yay) though I have AM’2s in everything else. More later.
Very nice! I did not go 800 as I did not have enough electricity to do them right and still have everything plugged in my Shunyata Everest X with Altaira X ground ststem on my 10 gauge wire.
The M400’s are wonderful, and yes, I left them on 24 hours as recommended and listened for 3 days and each day when I fired them up it was improved so give them a lot of music they are astounding when starting to break in. I did more room GIK treatment on a reflection spot up higher and the clarity of the FR-30’S really blew me away. Like nothing I ever heard at any dealer or show. Enjoy!
I bought a new SR Galileo Discovery USB cable to feed my Memory files to my streamer and did a comparison to my ChordMusic USB cable which was a incredible cable in it’s own right. The Discovery cable opened my eyes (ears) to how more music that can be squeezed out of these recordings. The ChordMusic is a very warm, full, and high resolution sounding cable, but the Discovery brings out even more space and micro detail. Also the Discovery is thousands of dollars cheaper. Higher price is usually better, but not always.
I thought I was nuts paying $995 for a 0.6M PranaWire Photon USB a dozen years ago. Just goes to show you how relative it all is.
I find the design of this line intriguing. I’m curious to know how the SMPS influences harmonic richness, image density, midrange liquidity. With the virtues of AB design and higher class A bias, I wonder if it comes down to the sound of the power supply.
And I find the power consumption spec confusing. Simply, what does it consume at idle?
According to the M800 manual…360w at idle. I don’t have a P20 to show exactly the power draw, but when I did see it at the PSA/Axpona booth, it registered about 20% less than the 600’s. My goal was not to exceed that power or heat production.
I have no power issues with a dedicated 20a circuit,
10 ga. wire, and all components (6) plugged into the Gryphon PowerZone.

This afternoon I had a chance to turn up volume to 90db+, and Oh man! I really like what I am hearing. At this volume FR30 can really pump serious air pressure into my brain.
I have 10 more minutes to enjoy the BIG sound before the boss is back. I am going to play 1812 Overtune next. I hope my neighbor will not shoot a cannon into my room
I signal ground every unit that I can. This is achieved with a single CAD GC1.1 grounding block on DAC, Pre, CD, switch and router. The single block and single ground performs a little better than using two ground inputs into a single block, or opting for a multiple ground, single chassis unit like the CAD GC3. This is according to the CAD designer.
I would assume the multi input Altaira might perform similarly. I tried chassis grounding the amps but heard no improvement.
I built this ground system based on what I believe to be is the best solution and have patiently waited to get several used CG1.1 for around a grand to justify the bump.
Chris said that the new PMG amps like M400’s and M800’s now star ground the power supply, and when I asked how to attach my Altaira X ground system he said to use an UNUSED negative speaker terminal for ground to get it all connected. I am doing this and some greater blackness and clarity of vocals especially duets be heard with careful listening. The Altaira X has 8 individual isolated ground connections that go to the main ground as a complete star ground system for both signal and chassis grounds.
My F12 arrived on Thursday which I wasn’t expecting. Never received a shipping notification with a tracking number but really happy now that I can spend time over the long weekend with it. As you can see from the box shipping from west coast to east coast is rolling the dice if you get your product in one piece. The hole went through both boxes but thanks to the ps audio gods it did not reach the sub and is in perfect condition. The room is temporary for my system but is dead quiet and actually sounds really great. One sub in this room is definitely enough. The F12 is a highly finished great quality sub. Via the wireless transmitter it was super easy to set up. Never draws attention to itself but adds deep controlled bass when called upon. Maybe when my system is in a bigger room I may think about adding a second one but one blends in so well I’m super happy. Have a great and safe 4th everyone
