Advice on Subwoofers

Wait…I thought we were done.

I guess I could have addressed that to everyone reading the thread but I thought it was a logical theory to single subwoofer sales. I could be wrong I’m not an expert just an enthusiast who enjoys 2 subwoofers (I’d rather have 6) for stereo and 3 for home theater.

Great. And this video discusses the “subwoofer crawl”:

But that video is for one subwoofer. If you want two subwoofers, will crawling around find two such places for subwoofer placement, maybe symmetrical?

Yup..

That’s exactly what I did for all 4. That’s why they are all crammed where they are. Dedicated room so not so much an issue with WAF.

In my own experience, the subwoofer crawl method is nowhere near as good as the measure using REW method. Crawl could be used in advance of REW, but I’ve found that the crawl method alone, once measured, invariably shows either the crossover setting is too high, or the amplitude is too high, or both. Sneakers track be d@mned! :grinning_face_with_smiling_eyes:

Exactly. Crawl yields location alone. In case of phase xover and gain you need to tweek. Most tuning software have quick measures that let you check in seconds a change to any of those settings to the sound.

For me the ultimate solution for Subs is Bacch. I bet Bacch would even make one subwoofer enough! Hmmm.

Thank you. I did not know about that.

Great group.

I have tried and used two subs in the past. In that room, they worked.

In my current room, one works better.

In my case, my Anthem preamp has a crossover built in and can direct bass to the .1 channel when I’m playing 2 channel music. I don’t like unnatural bass, so I tune the system for it’s musicality and it also happens to sound spectacular for movies as well.

Hello @onehorsepony

One subwoofer is usually enough, especially for smaller rooms. Brands like SVS and REL offer great options. For smaller rooms, try a 10-inch, and for larger rooms, go for a 12-inch. Placement mattersexperiment with corners and walls. It’s definitely worth it for richer sound, especially for bass-heavy music.

That’s the universal answer. But advice on new subwoofer and Subwoofer advice? I’ll just post 6 pack on all of them.
