I was actually 99% joking about the DSD - just could not resist.
Mine arrives tomorrow. Itās the 1st ever hardcover book I have ever ordered and will read. Yes, 1st ever. Of any kind.
Iād especially like to see the fast food dumpster scene!
@stonefree1911 - the white hash episode was my favorite so farā¦
Iām only in a few chapters Paul. I wonāt let me Son read nor will I read to him your Army Chapters. Heās off to Army Boot Camp somewhere in Missouri (I think) on Monday. Enlisted as a Weekend Warrior (Reserves) stuff. Great stories though Paul. Easing into each chapter as time allows each day. Listening to CCR on Qobuz while reading those chapters kinda helped. Back in '87 neither myself or any of my friends had any inclinations towards joining the Canadian Forces out of High School. It just wasnāt promoted in our High Schools in Hamilton, Ontario. And now I have outside of High School friends/ex colleagues up there who are retired and barely 50 yrs. of age !
But then Iāve heard horror stories of PTSD on both sides of the Border. Back when I worked for Military Electronics Supplier up in Ottawa, Canada. I worked with a team of Engineers who were given a project that both the U.S. Army & The Marines were spearheading regarding the study of PTSD and itās future effects. We designed the electronics which had accelerometers for measuring the X, Y, & Z axis impact zones and a pressure sensor for measuring a Soldier or Marineās impact to a blast. It was very interesting work that was also in conjunction with John Hopkins University.
They even sent us to Camp Pendleton for a week to deploy to the Marines.
A funny story while handing out the helmets with the attached sensor modules. I was using the Latrine outside in hot SoCal month of August. By day 5 that week, I learned that we were allowed to use the inside Washroom that had a handicap sign on it.
Nothing top secret here. There were articles written on both our companies work and our competitors.
I am certainly not going to reenact the dumpster scene! Once was enough for a lifetime. But yes, maybe a good idea to read a few while on video.
The acquisition of the white hash or the end result?
@Paul - both, especially when they found no THC⦠that was funny as hell⦠and you still got in trouble⦠man trouble was your middle nameā¦
Now that is a true statement. Paul Trouble McGowan
I just ordered it from Amazon, looking forward to reading it.
Looks like some fun read. My hardback is coming from Amazon tomorrow.
I just finished 99% True. I admire you for having the courage of exposing intimate details of your life. It serves to show that one can get off to a slow start in life and still arrive at where you want to be. It is also clear that you have infused yourself and values into the culture of PS Audio. It is what I did when I started my company 24 years ago. The culture that values our employees and clients IS our success as much as the very technical service of Accessibility Consulting we provide Endelman.com) Donāt be afraid to let go as you transfer the company to your sons as you have raised and prepared them. I retired from full time work this January after transferring ownership to my partner. I am now sharing what I learned in business as a Business Mentor for SCORE. There is life after you retire :-).
Congratulations on you success that meets your terms! We met once in Seattle (Audio Society)and hope to meet you again sometime. Open invitation to come hear my system which I bet you would like. All my best.
I canāt decide which format to get.
Iām a voracious reader but this one seems audio book might be good for driving.
Much appreciated! Thanks for sharing and reading.
The audio bookās a lot of fun. I havenāt heard it for months now (since I recorded it) and itās been long enough that it seems rather fresh and new to me. One word of caution, itās 14 hours longā¦.
I can post a big vote for the audiobook!, Iām almost finished with it and I can tell you that hearing Paulās familiar voice and vocal styling really add to the experience. When he is detailing a sad or tragic momentā¦you really feel it. Likewise the simple joy of German bread and a beer. Itās a great listen.
My nightly walk with Kellogg (my silly pit bull) is typically 1 hour, 40 minutes so I think we can knock out the audio book in under two weeks.
I am chapter 47 today. The Singapore warning : (read the book).
My quick story :
Dec. 1991 and Iām travelling to India for the 1st since 1980 when I was a kid. Mom & I had a stopover in Singapore because we missed our flight to Calcutta. Singapore Airlines gave us overnight accommodations (five stars I guess) with Breakfast and transportation to an from the Airport. And thatās when the Cinnamon Sticks hit the fan.
You see, Cinnamon sticks are expensive in Calcutta (?) so my Mom brought a bagful through the Airport Security. No problem in T.O. but once passed through the Singaporean Security forces. Guess what they looked like in a black and white X-Ray. A big bag of Thai Sticks.
Iām 21 at the time and I asked them whatās the matter. Then I explained it to my Mom. We opened up the bag that the alleged Thai Sticks were in, and she pulls out this big bag of you guess itā¦CINNAMON STICKS !
No one was executed but the plane was going to the Worldsās Shithole of all Airports instead of Calcutta. Bomb fucking Bay, India. I had a really bad experience there in 1980 and the one in 1991 caused me to light a cigarette in front of Mom. Which I never ever would do.
I donāt smoke anymore and the last time I went to India was with my Mom & my Son. e Brussels Airport was a much nicer experience along with Airline (mind escapes me to its name). My Godfather was with us which made things even more fun on the plane and at the airports we travelled through.
Wow! An even better story than mine!!
I just finished the landing in Hong Kong - virtually that isā¦good stuff
