Her use of language is affecting. This may sound weird but it reminds me of Mark Twain’s use of vernacular. Although she’d written before this was her first attempt at fiction and it’s promising.
My wife read and loved the book. The movie adaptation was well done.
I’m about a third of the way through and it’s been an enjoyable read. Didn’t know there was a movie version - thanks for mentioning it.
A short semi-biographical life story (circa post WWII) of a man profoundly afflicted with incessant anxiety and social alienation who struggled with addiction to alcohol and morphine. The author must have had a miserable life being born into a well to do family whose members were expected to conform to rigid behavioral norms. At age 39, the author and his lover committed suicide by drowning.
Four fantastic forays in fiction!
Published over 100 years ago. I had a lot in common with Anthony back in the day, but in a totally different setting. Park Ave to park bench for sure.
Fitzgerald was a very skilled writer.
