I used to do this via TOSlink from a Mac mini that I had configured for wifi name and password and system name so I could stream from any network connected device (iPhone or Mac in my case). But that Mac mini has died and starting 10 years or so ago Apple stopped including a TOSLink output on the mini so I’'m left with USB. But I have found no device/adapter that allows you to stream music over wifi to a USB port with no drivers needed (i.e. in this case there is no computer). The new Mac mini’s only allow configuration via USB no streaming (same for AppleTV). Has anyone managed a solution here?
Interesting.
I have tried only the RCA connection from my iPad/iPhone to the GCD.
Get an outboard streamer? Like an Eversolo DMP-A6?
The Gaincell dac supports USB input and I believe that new mac minis have usbc jack.
What you need is a USB C cable to usb type b. They are typically called USB printer cables.
To get you going for little money you could try this to see if it will work
6 foot cable:
3 foot cable:
If you are more geared toward high-end cables you should consider the equivalent cable from your favorite high-end cable distributor or manufacturer.
Here are a few audioquest cables available from audioquest on amazon. These are the lower-end models of these kinds of audioquest cables.
Thanks, I’ll check it out.
The USB A to USB B is not an issue, I have just converters wit no cable. But the new Mac minis can not stream over their USB ports, they are only for configuration.
It would be very unusual for apple to remove this feature. Since I don’t have a Mac mini, I cannot test this. I also realize that this information is for the older mac mini. If you’ve tried this already, I apologize for the duplication.
Exactly what I thought but I recall seeing an article that said it would not work. But I think that was about usb out from Apple TV (which I was thinking about) and that is what is not supported, It should work on a new mini.
