Commissioned this painting of my sweet little girl who turns 11 in about a week. The face up close is amazing, and glad I had it done, but don’t believe the artist was super thrilled, and really it’s probably not her best. She spent enough time on it I’m certain, but had the equivalent of writer’s block at some point. The last one is the digital prototype, which I like in some respects more than the oil on canvas….
Love this room!
found this great painting on ebay so I snatched it up for a song.
The artist, Pil Soon Conklin, was a contemporary of one of my favorite hawaiian artists, Hiroshi Tagami. (This came up in my alerts for Tagami’s art.) This is from 1970.
It hangs in my dining room. Every dining room needs a vintage turntable, right?
I can’t stop looking at it.
This is her with vincent price!
Nice painting!
My wife is a painter but I dont have any art on the walls of my listening space. Rest of the house is a different story…
From the most recent burst of creativity…
I’m in charge of making frames and stretching canvas and attaching multiple canvases into large works.
I’ve thought of taking the hi-rez pics and having custom (acoustically transparent) covers made for some of my acoustical treatments
Damn. You have a very talented wife.

Some of those pieces are very large. The largest is 4’x10’. Following some excerpts from one of her portfolios.
The piece on the bench is about September 11 (day before her birthday) and the faces are all painted on pieces of the NYT from that day. Here are some close ups, very powerful piece.
A collector is very interested on it but I want it for myself. Very personal from a very sad day in our history.
I also really like her Aspen Ghosts (we were skiing and she is looking at the Aspens [great place to use that name] and she thought wow all of those eyes looking at us. They are like ghosts; we came back and she painted this:
and her “Hermanos” (Siblings):
A feast for the eyes. Thank you, I just saved it to my laptop’s “Wallpaper” folder so it’ll appear periodically in rotation.
