Save the Dragons for DACs, preamps, and other source components. Unless you feel your system is at the pinnacle of performance spending $2500 or more for a $600 switch is a little excessive. The money could be spent on a Network acoustics tempus switch and the reward could be greater?
I have a Melco s100 switch that I am very happy with. The sound is more quiet and it doesn’t sound digital. As a power supply I have a booster that was upgraded by audifacts with an internal Akiko stick. This means the stage has increased in all dimensions and compared to the standard sbooster it sounds more focused with absolute silence. The hurricane source cable will probably be sufficient. Trying is more important than studying. I have Lan enhancer with silver and tourmaline which have once again ensured more calm and naturalness in the streaming chain. If I would change something else, it would be to bridge the power supply electrolytic capacitors in the power supply and switch with suitable bypass capacitors from duelund. The J-cat lan signature gold used between the switch and streamer ensures a musical and organic flow in the music.
I have my LHY FMC plugged with the cable that was in the box. I tried a fancy $375 cable. It lit up but didn’t function. The in the box cable is back. Hmmmm.
I would put a $3,750 cable to it then the improvement would be more apparent. It will make the LHY sounds like twice of its cost (which is still peanuts)
A better DAC or streamer is the most effective way to get a significant improvement when we talk about digital rig. The better the DAC/streamer the greater the improvement in sound quality.
Having said that the network matter, I mean I would consider switches/filters as much important as components (once the DAC AND the streamer are the best I can afford and there is no way to upgrade them furthermore). And in my personal opinion the next frontier should be the router in this industry, still underestimated, don’t know why!
Cabling is the last crucial thing to consider, both digital cables and power cords used for the network stuff. Again, only when I have already invested into better DAC and best Network “components” I can afford.
Yes I’m using a STEALTH cable to feed the Tempus power supply, but I consider the Tempus the best switch I can afford and the Reference MSB and Innuos Statement the best DAC and streamer I can afford.
Once I buy the best car I can afford, I can change the tires, but buying the best tires I can afford does not make my current car a different car.
Vinyl is static, streaming is dynamic and you enjoy the latter. Looked how much fun you have had when you jumped into this deep hole! You’re Captain Kirk going into the streaming frontiers that no one has gone before in this universe (forum). We truly appreciate your courage and many have gained knowledge from your experience.
If you try the Digital cable it sounds different from the Digital setting on the UNI done by the odd screws. Don’t know why but the Digital seems to excel feeding the hybrid power supply of the Tempus.
I’m using STEALTH ULTRA upstream, between the router and the Tempus. And Pink Faun Interlink (that I prefer to NA cable) between the Tempus and the Muon Pro.
It comes with 1 tuning ring. Does the ring position make a difference? Mmm …very subtle. Despite other estimated members, I can hear an audible difference between different Ethernet cables and I like this one very much.
