Audioquest Dragon Thread

Update. After two days of continuous play with the Dragon 48 I can´t remember my previous cables name anymore…yup totally forgot it :sunglasses:

Pretty amazing difference vs where it started from. If improving stops now,I don´t complain,no. But it will, haha

The DBS magic must be more than smoke and mirrors. My Dragon 48 HDMI was already set with active DBS as was the Dragon HC.

I figure by tomorrow I should be able to compare HDMi Dragon to RAL to make it a fair fight

So far my music with Dragons has improved every day. Still Dragons by themselves don’t overcome additional the RF and EMI absorption benefits on the P20. But the gap narrowed over night. The recording space and decays are unreal with the 3M HF absorption. This additive hobby is expensive. But at least not feeling the pull for dragon source or HC amp power cords yet….

Glad to read your double dragons are making magical music!

I would be interested in talking to your guy about buying the Dragon 48 HDMI cable in a .75 meter ! Thanks for your efforts in advance !

After running the Dragon HDMi a week. I went back and plugged in the RAL HDMI. It gave a wider more harmonized soundstage. A fuller warmer sound. Definitely doesn’t suck compared to a Dragon HDMI. I think I need more time on dragon HDMI. I tried plugging the RAL HDMI cable from apple TV to my HT processor. Lots of flashing video and strobe pattern. I want to give Dragon HDMi more run in time before I declare it an outright winner over the RAL it definitely has lots of details i hope soundstage widens out to give width of the RAL type width. They both give a believable presentation

The Dragon is more of the Ultra HIFI cable whereas the RAL is giving the live homogeneous mix without everything spot lighted to the nth degree like the Dragon but all info is still there with slightly softer edges and slightly less spatial information and recording space echoes. The Dragon doesn’t miss anything in the recording and gives it back for sure Right now I’d give the RAL a closer to real life presentation because it is offering more harmonization.

I will try video again with the RAL after the Dragon runs in more.

I don’t have have the Dragon but I have the RAL and I think that it’s an excellent sounding cable. I’m sure the Dragon is a great cable but what sounds good on Monday isn’t trash after the Dragon arrives on Tuesday it’s just different and in a good way.

How do you like the Dragon power cord? As I remember you got a SR Purple fuse at the same time so it may be harder to tell how much Dragon along does to the sound improvement. I am incredibly happy with the Zavfine Silver Dart which is less than one-fifth of Dragon. But I know I will get a Dragon eventually to compare what I have been missing.

I have my 2nd Purple installed in BHK preamp and surprisingly there is less burn in needed to hear improvement; right the way I heard better soundstage and fullness (or more likely the best is yet to come). 2 Purples solidify that they are way better than Orange and are likely better than Beewax ultimate (I have one) too.

The Dragon HC on a regenerator makes everything better from the get go. It outshined my BAV power cord immediately. If you want to hear diffence of a Dragon power cord. Watch the jay’s Audio Lab video on You Tube. Even on You Tube the same characteristics shine through Tonality wise and bass definition and details. . It is number 3 in his shoot out video.

The Dragon HDMi adds even more characteristics similar to the sounds his microphone captures.

I f you can’t hear differences on his video or didn’t like it compared to the other cords then don’t waste your time. It is probably not for you. Of course things are way better on your system. But the basic sound characteristics differences carry through surprisingly to my ears at least.

If any of you thinking about it are interested there is a Dragon HC one meter with 20 amp IEC on AudioCircle for $3000 which I guess is a sort of bargain. Seller is first class guy.

My observations on purple fuses mirror yours. The second one had less break in, but it was only powering My HDPlex300 powering my digital chain.

unfortunately, I can hear all the difference even in my cheap earphone. Darn, I do not like No. 1, No.2 and 3 are good but I guess I will not know which one sounds better in my setup.

It is good to know No. 1 is not Dragon, because that would be out of their topline characteristics.

The three comparison video and his Dragon vs Hiurricane is spot on. It comes out in spades. I heard it through cell phone Bluetooth earbuds. I heard what Darren Meyers praises in the Dragon power cords. They come out in spades once they are powering the whole system.

The Dragon is something else, it has that smooth, relax yet detailed delivery that you can listen to for a long time. Hurricane may work well in many systems too. It is like comparing a young top Napa Vally Cab. to the same 20-year aged Cab. that many are willing to pay a premium for.

I agree one can make other component or cable upgrades and never reach the fidelity of a single Dragon powering a regenerator or power conditioner that powers your system. The surprise is the videos capture the ease it brings as a whole. My amp cables are similar to the Odin Cables in construction and sound in the first comparison video Which is cable 2 that jay does. However the Dragon cable transforms my primary system signature sound like the Dragon even with my amp cables unchanged. It does leave me curious of a full Dragon loom of power cables.

I believe Jay has moved on from Audioquest to Transparent cables. Of course that was a few weeks back, so he’s probably moved on from those as well. Doesn’t seem to hang on to equipment or cables very long.

You’re right, even the glass water cups I got from Target has that label on it. So it’s not just stereo equipment, it just about everything you buy in California. What a nice place to live. At lease I know I’m gonna die of cancer living here.

I finally pulled the trigger on a AQ Dragon HC; it sounds so good even from YouTube demo. Last year I replaced my AQ Thunder with a Zavfino Silver Dart OCC for my P15, and I was surprised how smooth and relax it sounded compare to Thunder. The Dragon sounded smooth, relax with tons of details in demo which was the impression I got from Zavfino. It is unlikely (well, more like impossible) it can slay the Dragon. But it will be very interesting to compare the two to see how close they are.

I’ll report in a few weeks since I am traveling and will not get mine until the week of Thanksgiving.

Congratulations on the conquest. I don’t think you will be at all disappointed. Mine after a week is coming on strong. It helped my two channel and Home Theater both. The clarity and relaxed sound are truly a game changer.

The thing about the Dragon HC. I use a bunch less preamp gain. But low bass is still there. Just note your volume number. You will think it is lean until you match the watts. My McIntosh amps has the blue meter watt leveler. You match those and the dragon slays. But low levels your still hearing into the mix.

The noise floor falls away another notch. Thus less volume or gain fakes you out untl you mstch the watts.
