Murrayb, I know how you feel. My Aries G2.1 and Audioquest Diamond USB are expected next week not to mention an IPad Mini for the Auralic app. And then the $1820 Audio Art Statement e2plus power cable.
I’ve got my DS on the top shelf of my audio rack with my Perfectwave transport directly on top of the DS but would it be okay to put the Aries on top of the Perfectwave transport? My other option would be to put the Aries under the DS.
You need to wait until you get the G2 before you decide as they are much larger and heavier than they look especially the 2 series with the billet case. But no matter how you do the stacking the Aries should stay on top especially if you intend to use the WiFi. Stacking components three deep like that is in the long term not a recipe for success due to heat.
Congrats! Let’s us know how it compares to the bridge.
It is my understanding that the Auralic lightning App only works on apple devices. Roon works on both apple and android. When you use roon I believe you bypass the buffer in the G1 or G2 that is used with the native Lightning app
Am I better off going wireless or am I better with Wireworld Starlight 8 going 9 meters to a Gigafoil with Sbooster power supply with Wire world Platinum 8 going to Auralic Aries G2.1?
Why not go with the simplest method if it works in your system. I have tried it both ways with three different Auralic streamers and wired does not sound any different.
I had a gigafoil without a fancy power supply. Found that wireless was as good if not better with a lot less hassle.
With the ethernet unplugged from the Bridge II and plugged into the Auralic or not would removing the Bridge II make an improvement?
Why not try it both ways and see? (My guess is yes.)
Interesting to see a couple of comments about the DSD sounding better with the bridge 2 removed… anyone got any more on this? I’ve had a bridge installed for a while but have never bonded with the sound. Maybe I should take it out and sell it.
Apparently the Auralic Aries G2.1 is supposed to be nice.
The bridge 2 inherently adds electrical noise to the dac and does make quite a difference. The question is which ‘sound’ do you prefer with, or without.
What type of USB cables are you all using to connect to the DSD? I’ve read a lot of good reviews on the Curious cables but thought I would get some end user thoughts regard what you’ve found worked well. I don’t really have a budget set but I’m thinking around $600.
Dont forget the Windows and MAC clients. I love that Roon can be accessed from my laptops as well. I have no idea what Auralic was thinking not coding a remote control application for Win/Mac, and an app for Android. So many potential users turned off by that.
Mine is also 3 weeks to a month away from being shipped. I find that the Bridge II is actually pretty decent and it should hold me well in the meantime.
There is a lot of buzz about the matrix x spdif. Does the Auralic eliminate the benefits of the Matrix? As I try to read and understand the extremely lengthy post on the Matrix I only get dizzy and confused!?
I still use matrix on my G2, but not with external psu anymore
It is dizzy and confusing. You can use the Matrix with the Auralic if you use the USB out from the Auralic to the Matrix. You add more cables, chords, power supplies, and the such. I had a friend bring me over his hgh end matrix set up (with all the chords and such he had around $1200 into it) and I tried it on my G1 to the DS Dac. I found my $300 Coax connection was just as good. I like the simple set up.
Hi, good question, which I addressed in the Matrix thread here:
