AURALiC concerns (hope it is not true)

Lack of a focused or coherent response directly from Auralic gives me pause. I’ve been using the Aries series for about 10 years with no problems, currently G2.2. Rock solid, sounds great and love the Lightning app. I hope someone picks up the pieces with us existing customers in mind.

For my next DAC upgrade maybe I’ll consider one with built in streaming capabilities just in case. Hmmmmm. . .

Could it be if Auralic doesn’t do any updates of their products anymore, when you are using Roon there won’t be a problem in the future and still can enjoy your Auralic product?

If your product is working fine today, I would expect it to perform just as well into the far future. I have continued to use a few audio components in the past well past after the company went out of business.

When Qobuz, Tidal et.al. make changes the legacy Auralic servers/streamers may well lose functionality. The Auralic devices may continue to play nicely with local files.

Maybe PS Audio should look into buying the Auralic tech. The streaming was flawless whether using Lightning app or Roon.

Does anyone have any more news about Auralic?

After some experimenting I find that the Auralic Lightening app sounds better with Qobuz than Qobuz connect.

The owner sent emails to owners earlier in the year stating that he was having some health issues and needed to quit sitting at a desk all day. Then he also mentioned he wanted to become more involved in some sort of automobile racing. He didn’t mention any company succession plan for management which set off some red flags for sure.

I too prefer Qobuz through the Lightning app. Also have occasional dropouts with Qobuz Connect, never with Lightning.

I have never experienced drop outs with Qobuz Connect but I find that the Lightning app actually sounds better. I like to explore new music and forgotten music with Qobuz Connect for the layout of the app but Lightening sounds best. I hope that Auralic will sort itself out one way or another.

As stated, that’s the two funniest consecutive sentences I’ve read in a long time.

Yeah, same reaction here. But then, maybe he was thinking of management/organizational capacities.

Any Auralic G2 owners here, compared other streamers to your G2? Wether separate streamer or combo Dac/streamer?

I’m currently listening to an Auralic Aries G2.1 (with Hoerwege power supply)…..and finding it hard to imagine a better/more pleasing streaming transport. I upgraded from an Aries G1 (with Hoerwege PSU). My DAC is a PSA DS Gen2.

I’ve auditioned a Lumin T3x and a Naim NSS333 comparing it to a Altair G1. I had a Altair G2.2 for a test period as wel. The Lumin was to harsh in my system. It emphasized the top end to much for my liking. The bass was great, full and layered but the treble was very upfront and much energized. Made me nervous.

The Naim was a very beautiful all round player, very resolving which played with a lot of ease and flow. Very entertaining with details dancing around the room. Everything balanced but to “gentle” to my liking.

An Auralic just has something about it’s sound. A more fleshed out and fuller sounding midrange which provides more realism and makes everything more tangible. Still searching for a replacement…

I have used Auralic Aries for past 8 years, G1.1 and now G2.2. Have not had the desire to audition anything else. No complaints. Will continue to use until I can’t. Will most likely upgrade MK2 to 512 so having the build in streamer a plus.

Likewise, I’m using an Altair G1.1 in a second system and an Altair G2.2 in the primary. They offer quite a nice balance of design, functionality, and sound quality for the price. In retirement I’m trying to keep the number of components reduced, thus the decision to go with streamer/dac combos. I just hope they continue to remain functional in the foreseeable future now that the company has deceased. It is most unfortunate the Auralic owner’s forum has disappeared because there was a great deal of useful trouble shooting information there. I had some extensive email interactions with the owner Xuanqian Wang and he always promptly responded. He did seem to get rather testy when I suggested that both Auralic and owners might benefit from a removable warning label on the rear of the G2.2 that the output stage will be potentially damaged by using the XLR outputs connected to the wrong input pin pattern. He adamantly felt that well hidden bit of info in the online only owner manual was adequate.

I was really thinking of G2.2 for Dirac, but sadly that never came and will most likely never come. That would have made this a really good choice.

Hopefully an Auralic device will expand its lifespan when using ROON. I’m thinking of getting a subscription. What do you guys think?
