I’ve owned four Auralic streamers since 2015 and so far they have all been bullet proof. I am assuming my Aries G2.2 will be the same. I think the founder and CEO stepping away was a sign of things to come.
Will the LD lightening app just cease to function and if it does will we just use Qobuz and Tidal Connect and/ or Roon? In other ask will our Auralic streamers still function without the LD lightening app?
well thats sad, had a G2.2 until about 5 weeks ago got a great price for it as well so there was a lot of love in the market.
You would think the LD app would continue to run just not developed going forward. Roon always recognised the play so thats the other option with these.. But must admit the LD app always sounded that little bit better
sad to see ..
Sad news to loose such a great brand. Article sites Tariffs killed sales.
I was seriously looking at the G2.2 due to Dirac..but that did not come and now I have the PMG. That being said, I am guessing Dirac will never come. That’s very sad. I wish more streamers would look to build in state of the art room correction as part of that model. Then you can put it to any DAC.
IP up for grabs for $2M caught my eye. I know nothing but this strikes me as a relative bargain for something so highly regarded (in the distorted world of big business and finance). It makes me wonder if the Auralic difference is more about how the company/CEO went about business as opposed to it offering unique technology.
I also wonder how Auralic built a relatively large US following, which the tariff comment relates to. In another forum a different Asian manufacturer’s relatively weak presence in NA, but whose engineering prowess is generally well regarded, is being discussed. That mfg doesn’t have a dedicated users forum with active CEO involvement like PSA or Auralic, which I’m guessing hampers its growth.
Wouldn’t surprise me if much of the software is based heavily on open source, in which case they legally have to release (effectively for free) any software source code derived from that.
They might have some nice proprietary hardware stuff though ![]()
My Aries G2.2 received a firmware update within the last week so someone is still working there. Also all of my units work fine with JPlay for IOS.
Damnit… and I literally just bought into their world right before the tariffs hit.
if the price is right someone will scoop them up.
That depends on which open source software they are using and what license that is under. Many open source licenses don’t require a release of patches/addendums - BSD or the Apache licenses for example
Their software is based on Open Home similar to Lumin.
Yeah that’s under the MIT license - so the only stipulation it requires is to keep the original license and copyright in the headers for those portions of reused code. Any modifications don’t have to be shared and distribution is unrestrictive in any way - a very permissive license.
Indeed, and I guess therefore more appealing to OEMs than GPL licensed stuff ![]()
It’s a shame if they are out of business. I have no complaints with Auralic. The product I had was bullet proof and connected to everything with ease. Great sound quality that matched if not out performed my modified Oppo. A shame.
I’ve always thought Auralic did a great job with the software implementation.
Does anyone have any more news on Auralic? When I research it online it appears that a lot of what is said is speculation and not much is definite as far as I can tell. So far my Aries G2.1 is working fine.
Now I have read that Auralic has gone under. It depends where I look to research. I am hoping that this will all resolve itself and I will be able to use my streamer well into the future.
when I read between the lines it seems the owner either lost interest or the will to run the company any more. Between that and Tariffs sales plummeted. At this point probably waiting for a buy out from someone.
