BHK Arrives!

woot said This amp seems to run hotter than my EDGE. It does not seem to run as hot as my Pass X-600 monos

That would be interesting to compare BHK vs Edge vs x600

LOL!!! Woot is a friend and a happy, healthy guy, but I can’t imagine anyone hauling all those amps around. I know I’m years late to this dialog, but I pity his good health if he tries this.

FWIW, I’ve ordered a pair of '250s to biamp my Vienna Acoustics Mahlers* (currently) and Revel Salon2s (this spring/summer) and can hardly wait myself. Seems I’m waiting thru the backlog from the just-past ‘Black Friday’ sale.

Must be good times at PSA.

  • which sound better than I ever imagined and, in fact, excellent. I bought these, used, from a friend without ever hearing them.

Well I did a few swaps of the 115 lb EDGE w/the BHK! I really expected to be sending the BHK back… but it bested my EDGE!

Wouldn’t it be great, to have a structured way of documentation, to which other products people compared their PSA products and a short description of the difference?

This would get lost within the forum, but would be really valuable info for many imo.

It would be easy to start a thread with the first post describing what you are interested in accomplishing and what you would like people to contribute, and then adding a post comparing a piece of PS Audio equipment to someone else’s product as an exemplar.

If it is of interest and value, posters will keep it alive and it will not get lost.

Yes sure, I just think even in a separate thread it‘s unstructured if there’s no special thread at least for every product and one get’s lost after a few pages are reached…what I thought of was more database-like. But using the standard, what you mentioned is the way to go.

You are correct, a lot of god information flows downstream and becomes lost. A database would be very cool.

We also need a complete FAQ. People here are great and re-answer the same question for each new user/member, but a detailed FAQ would help a lot of new users.

Great idea. The FAQ would need to be kept up to date, of course.

It would be a great deal of work, requiring a FAQ administrator.

Some of the need would be ameliorated with a good search function.

Instead of a FAQ, I also like the idea of a comparison thread. Once that thread was started, people could post links to posts containing comparisons in other threads, such as this one. That way posters can respond as appropriate in the thread they’re in, but whoever sees the comparison and thinks to add it to the comparison thread can do so.

My 2 cents.

Keep in mind a comparison thread and a FAQ (Frequently Asked Questions - to address repeatedly asked common questions) are two entirely different topics and would not overlap.

A while ago I suggested something similar (database-like) wrt the Power Plants, as it is not always easy to predict sufficient capacity requirements for various equipment. While I understand sound quality will be better if you hook up a P20 on your old NAD 3020, I suspect this is not the advice most people are really after …

I cannot see this being such a difficult feature to implement for a seasoned programmer. It does not even have to form an integral part of the forum (could be just an external link). And it should be (for the most part) self-maintained by the users.

That said, such a feature is insignificant to me at the moment, compared to finishing the DMP code, e.g.

Is Wikipedia an option? Let the PS community administer it there. Although it seems out of place, certainly many other products, topics, etc are doing their FAQs via Wikipedia w/o calling it FAQs. Just a crazy thought.

An interesting thought. Can you post a link to an exemplar?

Well Paul,
My BHK S 250 arrived two days ago and after making an open framed shelf for it out of 2" x 4" Oak and plugging everything in and letting it idle for 3 hours. I sat down and began to listen. I was blown away by it’s balance! The amp does many things, there is clarity to die for, there is an immense silence, the music emerges from, there is pace, there is a sound stage and scale that defines a holigraphic venue and there is an honest musicality. I imagine none of which was easy to achieve. So many extrodanary traits that are so right and yet to me it’s the balance of all those things that is it’s overwhelming virtue. So well done Paul, please extend my thanks to everyone involved. Exstrodanary amp
Much thanks.
