Bose buys McIntosh

Did not see that coming. I expect it’s mostly Bose seeking to consolidate control over automotive audio solutions, but it’s sure an interesting mix.

Of note? The Bose CEO is a grad of University of Miami mechanical engineering program, a couple years behind me. Shows how I’ve basically wasted my life…

What does “Bose” stand for?

Buy Other Sound Equipment.

I figured you would…I won’t deny that while it would likely be a step backward sound-wise from my Stellar stack, I’d love a McIntosh feeding some of those classic old Bose or Klipsch speakers. Honestly though, I’d need a better space first, which is why my hi-fi budget these last couple years was spent on watches. I’m tired of listening in the corner of the basement.

Yeah, yeah, yeah…

Remember that Klipsch is now owned by the original conglomerate that pioneered garbage tape decks for cars, Audiovox. And Sound United is owned by a medical device maker.

Thank God Paul values his independence!! Good luck, McIntosh and Sonus-Faber!

Maybe I can get some meters!

I’m still shocked that they finally discontinued the Wave. I have gotten a couple used ones on ShopGoodwill for my kids and repaired them. I splurged a couple years ago and bought my mother a brand new one and it is among her most treasured possessions. Say what you will about Bose, but for a 70+ year old mom with lots of CDs, it was the perfect choice. A large factor in me retaining the crown of “favorite child” in the pecking order.

That article is “fake news” though Mike, But the acquisition isn’t.

As I understand it, they’re making like a dozen examples. Sadly no one I know will ever have them. Kith seems to be having their moment lately. They aren’t on my radar.

901s will turn up now and again on Facebook Marketplace. I should really get a pair at some point just for grins. I’ve already built a substantial museum of old tech that just intrigues me. Newtons, old GPS receivers, Macs…might as well add some old Bose speakers to the mix.

Next thing you know, Mac products will be available at BestBuy🙂

“No highs, no lows…must be Bose”?

No offense @rajugsw, this was a phrase I heard back in the day criticizing all of the “Acoustimass” stuff.

They already are (or at least were), in the “Magnolia Rooms”.

But maybe you were being sarcastic (?).

Fell out of my Chair on that.
I’d certainly be surprised to see Martin Logan and KEF at Best Buy as well.

Several local Brick & Mortar Dealers indicated it has more to do with access to a line of credit. Hobbies and vacations rely on disposable income in my world. :smoking:

KEF Blade and ML speakers have also been sold at BBs.

(^Sarcasm?)

I was at the Best Buy in Danbury, CT last year and they had McIntosh in that stores Magnolia section. Long before the Bose buy out.

What is a Magnolia Room? Conjures up an image of a Field of Poppies.

My attempt at sarcasm
