sickening
I get it. But I forgotten that I saw the Mac gear at Best Buy until I read your post. Lol
How many times has Sinus Faber been sold?
Yeah I never liked the Acoustimass stuff either. The "No Highs/No Lows thing came out of people’s ignorance to not use the Active EQ (or in my case miniDSP) to tune the things properly. While not the “ultimate” in a highly resolving pair of Speakers. They can surprise when setup properly. I still love Paul’s Video from many years ago which actually spurred my interest in getting a pair
Sometimes I believe I wasted mine becoming an M.D. and doing Anesthesiology at the University of Miami…
To be expected once McIntosh went into Jeeps! Possibly one of the reasons factory service switched to “service centers”.
I don’t care who the parent company is as long as they leave the division, McIntosh and Sonus Faber, alone technically and culturally.
That said, based on history, I doubt that will happen.
But wait, there’s more.
My statement was kind of an inside joke that only I get I guess.
“There I was”, an Air Force Major, working in the F-35 JSF Joint Program Office, in a conversation with a Navy civilian. She was talking about her kid and how he wanted to join the Marines. And then the words came out.
“I’m not going to let him WASTE HIS LIFE by joining the service.”
My contractor buddy in the room…his head spun around like the gal in The Exorcist to take this whole situation in.
UM during my “era” produced some seriously high quality officers. Multiple O-6s. (Most of my year group I stayed in contact with made Colonel). An Air Medal winner from the war. A 2-star general who became the Adjutant General of the DC Air National Guard.
I was an underachiever at retiring an O-5. Sometimes you are just only “so good”. I don’t resent it. It’s just how it played out. I did my best and I’m proud to have served honorably.
Like the Hulk in Avengers. “The honor to serve was always mine. That’s my secret.”
Fortunately other options exist. I found early McIntosh to be fascinating right up through the late ’70’s Especially fond of the Mac 275. Once installing my conrad-johnsom Premier 11 I basically forgot about McIntosh. The early versions still look sexy to my eye.
I always wanted a McIntosh in theory, but less so in practice. They’re pretty and all, but the sound never moved me when I’ve heard them. Maybe just the wrong setup or something, but it was always kind of underwhelming to me.
To quote the wife of a former 3-star boss of mine “Anything beyond 20 years is ego.”
O-5 was a pretty good place to call it a day. We done good! Time to pass the torch and go on to the next challenge.
I tend to agree, and found a sound more to my liking for a bit less. To a degree it depends on the type of music one prefers and speaker matching is key.
I still have my cj, and had intended to sell it, but am now reluctant as I truly enjoy what it brings to the game. Probably the most musical amp I have ever owned. A shame that it sits collecting dust.
I have had McIntosh in the past. I have always liked the Mac “house sound” which I hear as beautiful, inoffensive, hi-fi.
But over time, I came to prefer gear with a different personality.
Oh no… Jersey Mike’s has been bought out by Blackstone,a private equity firm in a billion dollar deal. There goes my favorite sub shop!
Here’s hoping they don’t load it up with debt and then dump it for tax advantage. Private equity deals always give me the willies. They never seem in the interest of keeping the business robust, but seeking immediate, unreasonable short-term gains.
Hmm…
Boseintosh
