Bose buys McIntosh

Chatting with a owner of of fairly large hifi shop. His impressions were not good. Hopefully not entirely accurate…

Poor McIntosh and iconic US Audio company first was sold to the Chinese six years ago. Fired all the smarties kept the look turned the designs into a class AB1 ultra linear and signed up the corner flower shop as a dealer - didn’t work out well for them and now Bose- they’re pretty much toast.

I am in way a businessman so I am probably out of touch. From my understanding McIntosh was owned by an investment firm. Now they are owned by an established audio company. Isn’t that a good thing?

Correction, I am not a business man

Probably not a bad move for Bose. Gets them into high end and more (automotive?) Opportunities.

But no new Mac owner wants to bragg about thier new Bose. Any more than a Porsche owner braggs about VW.

My guess is Mac will continue to make a quality product despite the marketing…

Could be…time will tell.

The Bose logo appearing on the face of any McIntosh components would be criminal.

What if they put the McIntosh logo on all the Bose stuff? Instant upgrade

As long as Bose does not get involved with McIntosh’s R/D/Mfg all should well.

I would buy a reintroduced Wave Radio. It remains a seminal piece of hardware with incredible success.

Whether you find the sound objectionable or not, it awakened a sense of wonder and a pursuit of better sound. We should all value that. It’s a gateway drug into the hobby.

An excellent table radio. They were everywhere.

It is very good at what it does.

Exactly. It remains a stalwart part of the American dream.
