David, the Roon update to the Bridge has not been released yet. It is being held up by the Torrey’s update for the DS Jr… I’m sure there will be lots of chatter when the Bridge update is released.
pmotz,
When I loaded the Torreys beta, and I was going thru the menu, it said “bridge update available”, that wasn’t there before the Torreys beta was installed. So, I said update it, and it updated it. Now instead of saying “Bridge 2” in JRMC21, it now says “PSAudio DS”. And now JRMC21 streaming works fine, which never worked before. Does it have Roon support? I’ll bet it does.
cerobo said Maybe slightly OT but for those who are using the Bryston BDP 1 & 2 with their DS, there is a RoonReady firmware update available . . .There is a good deal of happy discussion about this on the Bryston forum. I have yet to install it.
Can you post a picture of the software display as Derrick made a note that the BridgeII version should be shown under the version name.
Mine doesn’t show the version nor has it got the name in Windows Media Devices list - still showing BridgeII

David said,Some DS Senior owners expressed frustration with having to wait for Junior beta testing of Torreys to finish before the B2 update would be released. Paul said that he would see if it was possible to get it out earlier for Senior owners. That seems like a pretty clear indication it's not out yet (as of the day before yesterday).Does it have Roon support? I’ll bet it does.
@Elk, these repeated denigrations of Apple, do they relate to engineering or simply their advocacy of lower resolution music ?
In this thread, I referenced Apple and Bose as practitioners of the type of marketing cynicism of which EldRick accused PS Audio. These practices unrelated to engineering or lossy music.
Where your picture shows 0.0.0, mine shows 1.2.3 and everything else is the same as yours.
My Jr looked like it was needing it - but that picture was before was before I di the long press indicated here

My system sat there for 6 hours updating … until I powered off…then on again and now it no longer says there is an update but it still shows 0.0.0 under Torreys name…so ill be in touch with support via email to Derrick
Elk said In this thread, I referenced Apple and Bose as practitioners of the type of marketing cynicism of which EldRick accused PS Audio. These practices unrelated to engineering or lossy music.Apple devices cost between 66% (macbook pro laptop) and 90% (iPhone) less than the DS + BII, and come with at least between 4 yrs (computer) and 2 yrs (iPhone) free upgrades. The software update model seems extremely similar.
Anyway, for an additional 2 cents worth, I disagree that it is fair to have any expectation for BII being upgraded to Roon compatibility. At least in my case, where I bought the bridge before Roon compatibility was promised (and Roon project outcome was uncertain for quite a while).
This differs from the case applying to the FPGA (1.2.1 / Pikes / Yale / Torreys ), which was marketed as upgradeable (and that PS Audio would upgrade it).
Of course, these upgrades remaining free was never promised.
And the quality of the upgrades is (happily) over and above what anyone could expect.
USB compatibility remains with the Yale release.
So, while if true that BII is finished, it would be nice to have it released, and I cannot think of any benefit to anyone for delaying release of finished software, it is beyond my ability to comprehend any sense of entitlement regarding timing of the BII upgrade whatsoever, and in the vast majority of cases any sense of entitlement to a Roon upgrade at all (i.e. all except those very few who might have bought BII after compatibility with Roon was confirmed, very recently, according to my understanding).

These examples are in the land of phones and computers where all manufacturers offer free software updates, most of which are not time limited.
My comment was not directed at Apple’s and Bose’s software upgrade policies, but their marketing approaches of profit over all - which was EldRick’s criticism of PS Audio.
If you would like to discuss Apple, please start a separate thread. I did not intend my passing reference to Bose and Apple to become its own discussion point.
In this thread, I referenced Apple and Bose as practitioners of the type of marketing cynicism of which EldRick accused PS Audio.I can't let this statement stand, especially after Elk has the gall to repeat it. There is no cynicism involved in my stating that updating the DS DACs is "...just good business," to quote myself, and I did not "accuse PS Audio" of anything. Businesses that did not make a profit are no longer with us, and it is not "approaches of profit over all", but a simple ongoing requirement to remain in business. Sorry if that offends your liberal sympathies.
So I don’t appreciate the personal accusations and I don’t appreciate the snotty remarks about my motives. Keep your attacks to yourself, Elk, because they don’t belong here, and try not to read your personal preconceptions into what others write.
Seven paragraphs in a single comment, with one about Apple, itself addressing your comment. I don’t think there is any feasible way my comments could be characterised as off topic.
Having people make presumptions about the state of software development, the technical interactions of various software releases and the intent of the software engineering staff bugs me. Especially when I know personally how much PS Audio wants to make all of their customers happy and I know how hard they are working on many fronts.
When dealing with multiple products and multiple projects it’s counter productive to keep switching from one to the other capriciously. Some of the work on Roon was being blocked by the Roon folk and it would have been silly for PS Audio to be doing nothing while that was happening. Just because the Roon folk believe that they are done with their part doesn’t mean that PS Audio has had time to finish whatever work was being blocked. And in particular the Torreys release for DS Sr. couldn’t be fully debugged with respect to Roon without delaying the release (tho a lot of work was done to try to get things right.) Since these problems would likely also be in the Torreys release for DS Jr it continues to make a lot of sense to verify that the Roon code is working correctly with the DS Jr Torreys beta. I expect that when results are in (or mostly in) for the Torreys Jr beta that the Roon bridge update will be released. And in roughly the same timeframe I expect that an update for the DS Sr. Torreys release will come out.
EldRick said Sorry if that offends your liberal sympathies. No one has ever accused me of being liberal before. :)

Keep your attacks to yourself, Elk, because they don't belong here, and try not to read your personal preconceptions into what others write.Calm down. I have an opinion, just as you do, and have commented only on what you wrote - not on who you are. I continue to find your comments cynical and misplaced when it comes to PS Audio. You obviously feel they are appropriate.
Green Machine said I don't think there is any feasible way my comments could be characterised as off topic. No more than all the other off-topic comments. I suggest only that if you want to discuss Apple, we do this elsewhere rather in this thread.
Thanks, Ted
Ted Smith said . . . Some of the work on Roon was being blocked by the Roon folk . . .Bryston had this same issue and, in fact, Roon demanded that one of Bryston's software updates be rescinded.
No, I didn’t mean it that way. I meant that Roon’s development schedule didn’t perfectly mesh with PS Audio’s development schedule, which is always the case: schedules are a bad solution to problems that doesn’t have a better answer. The point is that because schedules will never align, you need to have an appropriate granularity to your work so that you don’t waste time switching too often but also so that you don’t hold other people back too long. Anyone outside of the organizations doing the work has no idea what could be happening when, let alone what should be happening when.
[Edit: Another clarification: I’m not directly involved in that part of PS Audio’s engineering, so I really don’t know what’s blocking what and why, hence my incredulity that others think they do.]
Ahh . . .
Thanks for the clarification.
I was surprised that Roon apparently actively stepped-in with Bryston’s implementation. But perhaps it truly did not work and there was a real, practical issue.
Roon is just a peripheral device. Many softwares like Roon will come and go.
Where as a DAC like PS Audio to me is more fundamental, a game changer with FPGA based architecture making it better and different every time without a cost. So as an owner of DS I shall like to see Direct Stream design team not making any compromise just to fit into schedule of Roon just because Roon is the sexiest cover art and tagging mechanism as of today. And also completely with the decision of Paul or Ted or whoever to ensure that Toryee is tested properly so that everyone who bought DS or DS Junior gets their fundamental right. Then they will have choice for Roon or any other Music server appropriate for them.
My 2 cents only !!!

Sourav
I reckon waterfall development easily misalign schedules, so maybe agile development (scrum) with regular sprints would improve the situation?
But then again I guess this structural procedure can be considered water under the bridge (pun intended) as pointed out several times before.
