Buchardt E50 vs Ps Audio Fr 5

This was a tough one here. When I received my E50’s and used my Hegel 390 I was shocked at how good they sounded. The bass was the best I ever heard out of a bookshelf speaker. Very transparent with good detail. So I connected my Fr 5’s and in comparison I went from a 5th row seat to a 1st row. In other words the E 50 is more laid back. I would have to say the Ps is more engaging to my ears. Soundstage about the same. The treble and vocals is where the Fr 5 shine. The bass is where the E 50 shines. I can’t say one speaker is better than the other however if I wanted the absolute best bookshelf I would use the ribbon tweeter out of the 5 and use the woofer out of the E 50. I’m just glad I own both

Thanks for posting your thoughts & comparison. It’s funny as I was planning my stand mount purchase for quite some time and had it down to the same two speakers.

Without listening personally to either (plus I could only afford to get one pair at a time) I took the plunge with the FR5s.

I’m very happy so far. I just need to find an amp with enough headroom to get the best out of them. My current setup sounds nice but is a touch under powered I think.

Thanks :+1:

Yes, the bukhardt (and a couple of other speakers) use “ushindi” woofers in this model from a company called Purifi and they are quite good (among the best for distortion etc).

They are also using a flatter bass alignment that doesn’t consider room gain and I think sounds more “punchy” and full depending on placement and room size etc.

I’m working hard to make future improvements to our transducer technology to try to make it “best in class” but there is a lot of good stuff out there depending on what “flavor” you’re looking for.
