FR5 just landed

I’ve heard these at AXPONA and knew they had a huge amount of bass for a small speaker, but dammmmmm!

The image and soundstage are impressive, even with my acoustical treatments optimized for a totally different kind of speaker. I’ll be working on that after I settle on the right spot.

I just plopped them down about an hour ago, with just some basic measurements to get them roughly lined up. Using some low budget stands, Pangea (28") that are sand filled.

I didn’t get the factory stands because this was the used pair from TMR and they were not offered.
If anyone can direct me to a used/refurbished pair in black I’d be grateful.

It’s there still warranty on these even though I got them used? S/N FR5-A-4E0251 & 252.

These might be staying.

Here’s a set on a good deal

On a side note, I sure enjoy my FR5s as well!

Awesome, thanks.
They were out of stock last time I looked.

Anyone know how much sand it takes to fill up both stands?

As a comment, our warranty is transferrable and from the date of manufacture.

That being said, there isn’t much to warranty on speakers as it’s clear they are free from manufacturing defect at this point. Still, if people get a little crazy on the volume and blow a tweeter or something (we’ve only seen a couple of these things since the line launched) we’ve tried to give customers the benefit of the doubt.

The legs are hollow and made to pass wire through them. That said, they’re already pretty heavy so I don’t adding sand will help anything.

When tapped mid-section do they ring? If so some sort of damping may be beneficial.

You are only partly right. The front 2 chambers can be filled. The rear chamber is for the wires.
Already filled mine, but have not determined how much weight in sand I used yet.

Gotcha, I didn’t pay close attention when I put mine together apparently

I used about 7 lbs of rice to fill the stands. I cannot comment about the difference because at the same time, I was in the process of setting up the speaker positions. However, I will say that when one plucks the stand there is a more dead thud than any ringing.

I am loving the FR5s!!! I sent a personal note to Chris Brunhaver. IMHO, this is the best speaker I have ever had in my setup. In short, tonality of both vocals and instruments is shockingly realistic; the detail is mind-blowing; the mid-range is superb, and the bass is tight I am playing a lot of my favorite music and am overwhelmed at how much music was previously missing. Chris, thank you for a super affordable speaker!

Nice! Congrats! I saw those on TMR as well and was tempted..
All the Aspens get good reviews, but the FR-5 really seem to be turning heads.

stonefree1911,
I have the speakers and the PS Audio Stands for sale now so I can raise money for F10’s.
My Maggie 3.7i speakers are also up for sale.

Have you thought about trading the FR5 into PSA for a pair of FR10’s?

Of course, but I don’t think my other speakers will sell before the sale is over.
We will see how it goes.
